What do you think of this Ferox setup for NPC hunting?
High: 5x 'Malkuth' Heavy Missile Launcher (EM/Explosive) 2x Anode Light Ion Particle Cannon I Medium: 1x Large Shield Booster II (312 Recharge w/ Shield Boost Amp) 2x 'Anointed' I EM Ward Reinforcement (50% EM/12Sec) 1x Ditrigonal Thermal Barrier Crystallization I (50% Thermal/12Sec) 1x Shield Boost Amplifier I Low: 4x Power Diagnostic System II

Nice, an alternative setup I use though, which can handle up to 750k Battleships by itself:
High: 5x Named Launchers (Started off with Malkuths, Limos and the Numbered launchers are better though) 2x named Light Neutrons (again, named)
Mid: 1x Med Shield Booster II 1x 10MN AB II 1x Anointed EM 1x Ditrigonal Thermal (Hardeners should be race specific of course, this one is my standard, you never know when you'll meet a gankageddon) 1x Large Shield Extender I or II (Both work fine)
Lows: 2x Ballistic Controls 2x PDS
With BC level 3 your resistances should be decent for taking NPC battleship fire, just get up close to them and orbit at 500 after clearing out their smaller buddies, then its just a matter of time. This setup also makes it ludicrously easy to take out any smaller spawn you might come across

I notice alot of people use Medium Shield Booster II's, is this purely because of availability? Because I find that if you activate them at about 20% shield, sometimes they don't refill fast enough. (I activate shield booster at below 30% because the shield regenerates faster below that point)

I was testing a "railox" setup, and found that this worked well for lvl3 missions (though more testing is needed):
5x named 250mm rails 2x named (I tried limos) heavy launchers (w/scourge against guristas) shield tank setup (therm + kinetic hardeners, named medium booster, booster amp), cap recharger tech 2 dmg/RoF mod, tech 2 tracking mod, 2x RCU

I prefer the Med Sheild booster II purely because of less demanding requirements for both fitting and cap usage, you can pretty much run it non stop for up to 2 mins before you run out of cap on a missle based setup. Ideally I activate the booster around about 50% when the damage I take is too much for natural recharge to handle. Besides, if you get to 20% shield its time to consider warping out ;)

Oh far from it, boosting from 20% shields, brings them back up to 35%; (the 0-30% mark regenerates almost twice as fast, so essentially you take advantage of the slow drain)
I suppose Medium Shield Booster II's would be great if you don't like to monitor your shield status 70% of the time.. however I find it does save alot of cap by simply activating once then letting it drain slowly until it hits 20% again. Cap stays at 50%.

I found this setup wonderful for challenging NPC battleships.
4x 250mm rails (named preferable), Thorium ammo. 3x Heavy Launchers (once again, named preferable) Or substitute one Heavy for a Rocket Launcher w/ Defenders.
Large Shield Booster II 2x Hardeners of choice (2x Kinetics work like a dream against Guristas) 10mn AB II Shield Boost Amplifier.
1x Magnetic Stablizer II 3x PDU's
5x Medium drones in the drone bay for dealing with webbers, along with your launchers.
The medslots are the star of the show here -- you're looking at 312 shield for 160 cap, every 4 seconds. It takes a lot of Guristas to even think about denting that tank. Especially with two kinetic hardeners -- you watch streams of torpedoes crawl up and simply shrug off all the hits. ----------- Fighting for the ideals of freespace, posthuman ethics, and rock & roll. |

Edited by: Jack Winters on 12/02/2005 20:29:02 High: 5x 'Malkuth' Heavy Missile Launcher (EM, THER, 2x KIN, EXPL) 2x 125mm 'scout' I Accelerator Cannon Medium: 1x Medium Shield Booster II 2x named hardners for the npc's i go against 2x Large Shield Extender II Low: 4x Power Diagnostic System II
Only have to warp out when i forget the right hardners, I don't use a AB due to the tanking. You also need to have Electronics and Mechanics at lvl5. I have to admit i don't do lvl4 mission with it, but lvl3 its perfect. ----

Edited by: Seto Mazzarotto on 13/02/2005 03:50:48 Update on the setup I posted:
After switching to Antimatter ammo, I took down the 750k Destroyer at the end of the Extravaganza mission in under five minutes. Forget the Defenders, with the dual kinetics you don't even need them. I was pretty much passively tanking the stream of torps coming in, to boot.
Food for thought, there. ----------- Fighting for the ideals of freespace, posthuman ethics, and rock & roll. |
