Looking for some advice on ratting/plexing setups. All I know of this area is that i'll have a metric ton of drone junk to haul about so i'm getting an industrial alt to handle the processing. Does all the actual isk out here come from selling this material (or the minerals) to your corp/alliance, or are there other opportunites that i'm not aware of?

In terms of ratting the money comes from selling the alloys to your corp/alliance. We don't have officer spawns like Sansha or Guristas, and we don't have bounties on our rats that fill our wallet out of nothingness, so you actually have to loot your rats in order to make any money. A lot of people see that as a downside but.. we have trit. We actually have industry and workable markets in drone 0.0 (at least to the extent that CCP's crapped game mechanics will allow) either through the in game interface or extended through corp/alliance websites. That was what amazed me the most moving out and becoming an evil 'Russian RMT'er' as you'll get labeled. Contrary to the rest of 0.0 we don't rely on jita heavily except to get fancy faction modules for ratting boats or skillbooks.
There are other ways to make isk out in drone 0.0 if you're into industry. A lot of alliances have artificial caps so you don't have people going crazy trying to sell modules at horribly inflated prices to alliance members, but you can turn a solid profit by working the market, not so much 'playing' the market which generally gets looked down upon in our communities.
Mining, we actually have miners out here who aren't bots /*macaulay culkin face*/ So if that's something you're interested in you can churn some good isk out of it.

So as far as plexing/ratting setups go ahead and toss that into EFT and check out how well you can set up your tank. For Damage Dealt you want to try and stick to EM or Thermal as they seem to work the best. You don't HAVE to pick up all the alloys that drop. Certain alloys sell for certain prices so after a little while you'll get the hang of what sells best per m3 to your corp/alliance and can save cargo space for just those, or bring in your noctis behind you and just collect everything. (for noctis fits I actually went with 3x cargo rigs instead of 3x salvage rigs, as I didn't have a safe pos to toss stuff in at the time)
We also have cake and be prepared to pvp for HD's CTA's. That's drone regions in a nutshell.

I don't have an alt to do a lot of loot hauling with, so am I going to be seriously handicapped?

IMO you will be, but it can be done, just hurts your isk per hour. Personally I hate pve so anything that can get it over with faster so I can keep 5-10 of each hull I fly in fleets in my hangar the better.

I'd say you're going to want an outside revenue stream if you don't have a noctis alt. The obnoxious nature of doing this solo would drive you absolutely mental in short order. Of course, many DRF ship replacement programs are extremely generous so if you're going out to shoot things, then you might find income to be not much of a problem. Just leg it over to better space as it becomes liberated from the NC.

Out of curiosity how's exploration in drone regions? All regions get some drone anomalies and signatures in addition of the local rats, do drones region get random pirate anomalies and signatures?

As a former drone reigons resident (for about five months in KBB), I ran drone hordes and patrols with my Corp. We had a Corp purchase system called MOPS that worked well. At the end of my play time I would create a MOPS quote and include any ore that was mined, alloys and salvage harvested. It was not uncommon for me (just one account) to rake in 100 million isk per day.
Oh, also the planets out there are pretty awesome, that too was included in my mops quotes with a bunch of robotics, coolant and such.
Another thing that was fun for me was how quiet it is there. We usually had plenty of warning of a gang coming through. Me, being mostly pve and industry, didn't mind the lack of activity from neuts. I hope this helps, and good luck to you.

Don't you need extensive AHK/Autoit experience to move to the Drone Regions, or has it all gone to python?
