I am heading for a life of crime. The lure of lowsec is calling me. I long for the thrill of pitting myself and my ship against another player instead of going after the rats. I have my finances lined out to keep me in the money. While I won't be rich I should be fine for ships and modules. My only problem is which boat to use on my journey. I am torn between the Incursus and the Tristan. I like the Tristans ability to fit a decent tank and it seems to have the superior DPS output, however the Incursus is much faster and a lot less skill intensive. On this note I turn to you my fellow pilots. Please give me some advice on which ship would work better for lowsec PvP. List pros, list cons, list fittings, feel free to list whatever you like even if it involves a completely different ship. And thank you for your input and experience ladies and gentleman. I truly appreciate it.

To begin with, the incursus is pretty good. It's your typical glass cannon blaster boat.
Once you get the hang of things a bit upgrade for a navy comet, similar idea but it comes with a drone bay and looks really cute. ---------- Who, me? |

that's how I fit my Tristans, but just stay away from shield tanked neuting Rifters.

Congratulations on making the decision to join the dark side.
Both ships are rock solid, but there are a few things you may want to consider before deciding which one to go with.
First, both of these ships are rather skill intensive. You have hybrids and drones to train up, and the Tristran adds missile skills to this list. Compared to a Punisher or a Rifter, that's a lot of skill points to devote to acheiving your dps potential (although the Punisher arguably requires cap skills as well). Depending on where your skills are at the moment, this may or may not be an issue.
Socond, although the Incursus is a glass cannon, it upgrades into assault ships that use the same skills and approach, so if you like the playstyle, don't be too dismayed by the lack of tank; that's only a short term problem.
However, if you disregard the skill requirements and look only at the short term, the Tristran is probably the better ship. The Incursus' ability to burn down targets quickly becomes less valuable when you are soloing above class targets. At that point the staying power of the Tristran helps you weather the damage you will inevitably suffer on the approach. |

Thank you for all the input so far. If anyone has a fitting suggestion that would be awesome. As far as skills go mine can be found here http://eveboard.com/pilot/Gul%27gotha_Derv%27ash.
Was thinking is it viable to run an Incursus with a shield tank? I have been playing around with it on EveHQ but was thinking that there may be a reason outside of fitting for not using that.
Also just wanted to say that I love the blog Taurean it really helped me choose this path.

Without trying to keep you from having fun, ships like the Incursus really start to shine (and by that I mean being viable) once you have T2 guns. Not so much because of the extra damage but because of Null ammo. Blaster range is quite limited and once you attack another frigate you really want to keep it at range (which works great with your AB/scram/web) and make use of null+falloff bonus.
Bigger targets you want to "hug" at 500m orbit so it doesn't really matter for those but other frigs you want to keep at ~6km while firing Null. Doesn't mean you should "wait till you have enough SP", but you should realise that frigate pvp will become a lot better once you can fit and use the right strategies.
Against a bigger target the Tristan would do better but on the whole I prefer the Incursus.

You can't use a kiting fit without speed, only thing you'll kill with that is non-tanked miners & idiots.
