Hello Everyone, I didnt really know where to post this but since I am looking to start pvp here in the next few weeks I was looking for advice on ships and training for my first couple trips into the low sec for some pvpage. I am an amarr pilot with only 800,000 sp atm, very low I know but I trained in for a harby and support skills so all of my medium/low slots would be t2(except for my turrets atm). The main reason for this was better isk flow, and I solo level 3's fairly easy now, hoping to unlock level 4's soon so I can have a little more excitement in the pve dept. So my questions are as follows.
1. What would be a good ship to go out into low sec with? After I train for t2 medium turrets I'll be training for scorch crystals. From there I was thinking about a little t2 frigate possibly a retribution since it will require the least skill for me. I dont plan to solo pvp either, I have 2 friends who specialize in analyzing and electronic warfare while I am the pew pew'er. If this setup is all wrong and will get us blown up quite fast please let me know.
2. What are some good skills and items to compliment my team? As is stands I am primarily dps with little trained EW, just a webber and that has been for pve atm.
I am trying not to be too general here in my post but if my question is too broad I will be happy to narrow anything down for you all. Thank you all for taking the time to read this and any responses or help you might have. Fly Safe!

Retribution is not generally viewed as a decent frigate, due to its single mid slot and therefore its inability to fit a propulsion module and a warp scrambler/disruptor.
What you fly depends on what you are happy to loose (as you will loose ships) but I would say that the following are considered the best Amarr pvp ships:
Frigate size: Punisher, Slicer, Crusader Cruiser size: Arbitrator, Pilgrim, Curse, Zealot (not solo) Battlecruiser: Harbinger Battleship: all are good
With such low skill points though I would just buy 10 Punishers and loose them first.

Edited by: Korg Tronix on 27/05/2011 16:21:57 I would also add the vengeance to that list of frigates as its just awesome.....well at least I think so.
I would say at your point though just stick to t1 frigates until you get used to the other not sp based skills needed for pvp.

Ah neat, ty. i actually have a slicer I like to fly, but at my current sp level my turrets do no real damage. What would be good for the low slots, I would assume I would be speed tanking but have never really done it. I dont mind losing the ships or the proper mods if it means I can hang in battle that much longer at this point. Also What are good rigs for the slicer seeing as it is probably the ship I will be going out with, I dont mind losing the isk, it's not hard to farm back. And those empty high slots? I would think a vamp for sustained pew while I zoom around the target.

I have to say my experience with the slicer is limited but from what I gather there are only really two ways to fit it, either the kiting 20k optimal type or fit it like a AB crusader but better. So really it depends what range you feel comfortable flying it at.
I will say if its the close range version that its not a whole lot better than the crusader (both have the same problems etc.) so maybe fly crusaders until you are used to it as crusaders are around half or a third of the price of a slicer I believe (not sure on that though as I havent bought a crusader in a while)

In my opinion and experience, all pulse laser ships are not worth flying for pvp unless you can use scorch.
In brawling scenarios, pulse lasers have worse tracking than auto cannons.
In kiting scenarios, pulse lasers have ****ty damage without scorch at longer range.
So train up those T2 small pulses if you want to pvp.
They don't take that long.

FYI, you dont need to train specifically for T2 ammo. The T2 ammo just stipulates that it has to be put in a T2 turret, so training the turret is enough. ---------- Who, me? |

Something like this:
[Imperial Navy Slicer] Tracking Enhancer II Tracking Enhancer II Heat Sink II Overdrive Injector System II Co-Processor II
Warp Disruptor II 1MN MicroWarpdrive II
Medium Pulse Laser II, Scorch S [empty high slot] Medium Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Small Energy Locus Coordinator I Small Energy Metastasis Adjuster I Small Energy Metastasis Adjuster I
Keep opponents out at 20km. If you get scrammed (MWD off), you die.

Here's what I recommend since you're low SP, stick to tackling for a few months. Fly an interceptor (malediction or crusader both are fun) and get battleships to 4 and Large Energy Turrets to 4, just enough to fund your hulls through missioning. Once you get this done go ahead and remap over to Int/Mem and max your armor/shield tanking skills + your core competency cert up as high as possible. Then you should be ready to map back over to perception/willpower and find an alliance in null to take your friends and fly with. From that point, if they're any good, they'll tell you what to fly in their fleets.

Don't even think about flying a interceptor or (anything t2) with only 800 K sp. If you want to start get into a t2 HULL make sure you got enough SP to fly it and spend at least a couple of months training unless you think it's fun to give people t2 killmails.
Stick to your BC, and after you have trained your armor "certs" train your shield skills so you can fit a shield buffer dps set up. Do not forget your Droneskills.
Use this BC while training for a HAC, Zealot. Get evemon and make sure you train for all the certs suggested.
Tell your friends to get a Pilgrim to support.
