For those who don't know what it is: Geocaching.
I was shown this today, downloaded the app to my phone, and was amazed to see 2 within 1km of my house. So, off I popped, with the dog (she needed a walk, and one was actually next to the field I take here apparently).
Found 1, but the second evaded me, due to poor signal there I couldn't narrow it down
Try it, it's fun!

I had never heard of it until today. Hooked at the moment, I WILL find that other one this weekend, my wife has agreed to help. Well, whenever I can't find anything she usually finds it and then berates me for never being able to find anything. What can go wrong? :P

She could steal your hobby from you!
One thing I'm unsure of is can you keep what you find or do you put it back?

A norty person could enter GPS co-ordinates that is off the edge of a road that is next to a cliff face. Give me a car and i will give it a go!

Read something about this in the newspaper today. In Belgium someone discovered some stolen houseware using geocaching. The burglar would put their wares stolen at night in rabbit holes in a park, to come pick it up later in the day. They caught some eastern europeans doing this stuff.

Interesting, one hidden in a cave on a small island out in the sea - I didn't find it yet though but it's supposed to be there, and hard to find, so another go this summer for sure

I used to geocache with my dad when we went on 4-wheeling trips. So much fun. Don't have the time now :( Haunting the forums since '03

If you want to get started in Geocaching, go to the website. It's alot of fun, especially the ones deep in the woods.

Well, as I am sure you all were on tenterhooks, here is an update.
Today, me the wife and the dog went to the former golf course near us, now used for dog walkers. According to the geocaching website, there were 5 in the area.
We found the first two we looked for, hurrah!
Failed on the third, but will try again.

The general idea is to sign the log book in the container. Some have items in, which you can take as long as you replace with something of equal or greater value. The first one we found today had a few things in, but I noted i the log "TNLN". That's geo speak for "Took Nothing Left Nothing"

Personally, I didn't, but some dude tried to put up four packets in my city - resulting in a big ass police deployment including bomb specialist team because somebody thought it was a bomb.

I found and disposed of two caches last year. Don't place them on private property. It freaks people out.
