Carbon UI is good BUT

Calathea Sata State War Academy	Posted - 2011.05.31 11:51:00 - [1] Carbon UI is on DUDU and it is working great, finally quick responsive UI that doesn't really lag much JUST LIKE ANY OTHER GAMES. The UI is coming to TQ as we speak but isn't it something only fixed and not something new? Other games have UI of the same performance from day zero, CCP just magically used a crappy one instead and it took them 8 years to finally get a proper one done DESPITE IT LOOKS THE SAME IN TERMS OF DESIGN with the same poorly thought out layouts and window placements and hierarchy etc etc. I mean, CCP, if you truly want to IMPROVE the game surely the whole UI will be REDESIGNED? I mean, it's not rocket science...

They could make some easy "improvements", for example making the overload controls larger than a fly's weenie, but a "re-design" would be massive. Firstly it's such a big job that it would be difficult to tackle in one go well. So they may overhaul it in parts: for example the directional scanner in one pass and then maybe the overview in another. However, this can lead to constant annoyance from the player base; every release comes with it a new way of doing things to learn. The other thing to consider is that people have been using the current system for so long now it is such a habit. (Mainly PvP) Players will automatically keep an eye on local, overview, module overheat, click scan, check cap, check reppers, check guns, am I jammed, what range am I from stuff, how fast is everyone going, where are they going. If the system changed it could be a big new way of doing everything - players would need to re-learn all the subtleties of the interface. The obvious final problem is "dumbing down" of the interface in an attempt to make it easier to use, especially for newer players. This could lead to mass frustration from those who like "EVE is hard" and hence a skill to "master".

However CCP have an habit of putting the basics in and I mean basics, and then doing nothing for years. I have to say, that yes eve 5 years ago looking pretty nice, however in the new modern era, its severely lacking graphically. I know its an MMO but that cannot be used as an excuse anymore, other MMOS look absolutley stunning graphically. I mean tbh X3 looks far better than eve and thats 5 years old! Eve reminds me of those old deep Amiga adventure games. Has lots of content, depth and interest but nothing to look at. So i think there needs to be serious improvement done graphically on the game, the depth and content is there. The problem is CCP are stuck in this world of one universe one server which severely limits them, because nice contents causes lag. Funny thing is other MMOs solved this issue years ago by creating different worlds! But CCP just cant see that..But there again there isnt enough ppl playing this game to perhaps warrant it yet. I do have a concern whether the devs write code thats performant...

Comparing a single shard MMO to a single player game is just ridiculous. And despite saying that other MMO's look better he doesn't seem to be able to think of one, instead he just refers back to X3. Quite clearly he is either the unfortunate victim of severe head trauma or just another dumbass troll.
