I like my T1 cruisers. I know with the right skills that they can still be useful tools for PVE and PVP. They're cheap as chips compared to their T2 equivalents and rightly so.
But I wonder if we can do more with them?
I would love it if there were an option to do a refit at cost to give them an uplift so they were halfway house between T1 and T2. It would also be good if the refit edition wasn't obvious - so you had to do a visual check to look for signs of refit.
I think it would make the class more appealing and make your opponents less certain.

Edited by: Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov on 02/06/2011 16:56:24 There's some good ships in the T1 cruiser line, namely the Arbitrator, Rupture and Vexor (possibly the Blackbird too?). I think the others should be brought into line with these first.
Since CCP is making new models for the existing ships, they should be looking to make them more desirable to fly also. The new Maller model looks wonderful, for example - but is anybody going to actually use it unless it gets a buff?
Many, like the Thorax, just need their powergrid increased.

maller, while whit it's flaws, it is actually a nice sturdy throw-away heavy tackler.
that thing can take quite a pounding.
extra grid and 10-15m3 dronebay wouldn't do any harm tho. ---

New intro sequence Maller hull types
I'm really loving the new art work. And the music on that intro sequence when the guns light up. I love Sci Fi
In terms of the thread - I'm not looking for a general buff but more thoughts on whether a 'refit' at reasonable cost is a good idea to extend the life of cruisers in this game and keep them a viable 'surprise' option.

I'm really, REALLY not sold on that new maller =/ Why does it suddenly look jagged and haphazard? What happened to smooth curves on Amarr ships :(

this, i think they tried too hard to create ships that follow the deviant art contests, specially all the jagged amarr ships.

The Mentor looked awesome, why not just model that and put it in as the new maller? :D

The new Maller looks like the bastard child of the old Maller and the Legion. Not entirely thrilled with the idea.

Your wut made me cry.
Not obvious to your opponents. i.e. they don't know if they're facing a standard cruiser or a refitted version.
I look forward to your next wut.

I actually love the new graphic for the Maller. The color schemes seem to be a bit 'off' but the new Devoter is going to look pretty sexy.

Isn't this pretty much exactly what Rigs do now?
Granted T2 ships also get rigs so it doesn't really close the gap, but it does make the T1 ships a good deal more powerful than they used to be.
Not that I'm against the idea, I'd love to see more ships being worth undocking. removing the T1 tiering system, on all ship classes, would be a better first step IMO though.
Personally, I'd REALLY like to see a T3 style subsystem setup for all ships. Not talking all the stats and or power levels of T3 here, just the ability to reconfigure ships to different roles. And this might be the perfect way to implement your "refit" idea.
Although, i was disappointed with the T3 subsystems limitations. For example, the defensive subsystem should have an option for armor tanking or shield tanking FOR ALL T3 ships. having 3 options for armor tanking and no shields is one of the things that makes the Legion such a P.O.S. (for a T3, it's not really a horrible ship but it's definately not worth a T3 price tag)

By perfect that means every T1 and some rare T2, but you'd probably be better in your legion for everything else.

This is basically what people who ask for CCP to do away with the Tier system want. The idea that the base cost of the ship should tie in with a quality Tier and therefor a performance ability is a bit antiquated now.
By removing the Tiers and revamping some of the more anemic T1 ships to the standards of what is currently the 'Highest Tier', we might actually get some more useful T1 ships out of hulls that for years have been pure lulz. ---

This would be a great mechanism if the balance was right and it brough the ship classes closer but at appropriate cost. I'm not sure I would want a visual reconfig in the same way a T3 changes. Just attributes would do.

WUT?
If i understand you correctly, you're suggesting making a second version of t1 cruisers with the same name and same item type, with additional slots, fitting and base attributes. It seems completely unworkable within the current framework of the game. Also if you want a better ship than fly a different ship.
