A few tricks to get away without being destroyed. Go around-check your map-look in local-ask for passage if you cant go around." Guys it is a bitter pill and a hard lesson to learn to have your ship blasted out from under you. Take it easy on them. Most of the time even if its threats and harsh words, they the "gankie" just want to know why. I would bet most people who are overly hostile think they are good PvP'rs just because they can wtfpwn NPC's. You should even take it easy on them too. Being a "good" pirate is hard. Being an a-hole is easy. And being wtfpwnd is never fun...
oh so very true ;) though alot of times they get outa hand and talk smack at which point they deserve to be podded and/or flamed harshly to teach them a good lesson of respect....

Rat characters only do this because
a) they're taking a break from they're normal pastime because they've run out of kleenex's or have a sore wrist
or
b)they're taking a break from they're normal pastime because they're mum just walked into they're bedroom

I didn't read it all but here's few points.
#1) When I was a pirate I would alot of time pod someone because then they wont be in the system (unles there clone is there) to warn others of my presence. I know countless times I've killed someone and then left the pod intact and next thing is see them sayin in local "pirate in system"...everyone goes and hides =no more targets in that system.
#2 believe it or not targets aren't as easy to come by when pirating solo. I would usually jump 30+ jumps slowly scanning systems with ppl in it hoping to get a kill and I would get maybe 3 kills on a good day. or a verry good a day a mining op So even a shuttle or frig becomes fun to kill. (Though I tryed to leav noob's alone. Didn't wanna turn them away from the game)
#3 I don't know how rediclously EASY it is to NOT get killed in shuttles. I've jumped into 0.0 gate camps, gank squads been attacked by ndy pilots and have ALWAYS came out without a scratch. The shuttle can get out of 99% of situations. It turns and warps rediclously fast. and if fast itself. and has a long locking time. If you know what your doing and paying ATTENTION and your in a shuttle you a difficult target to say the least.
-frigs are a little easier to kill but still stick 2+ wcs on lows and you can get out of 95% of all situations if again your paying attention to what's happening. I've been chased by gank squads with interceptors, friges and the whole works for hours in a system and still in the end I didn't loose my ship..I took dmg but not enough to take me down. -----------------------------------------------

Every action has a reason. Even if this is an Role-playing game, not many of us are the best actors. So most of our character actions a reflected from our real lives. Some people do things in games because they have problems in real life ;). Maybe the are picked on in real life and feel the need to pick on others in EVE for their satisfaction.

Not sure what computer specs you need for major fleet battles but I do not find 0.25 - 1.0 fps "fleet battle sessions" fun at all. I might as well go back to playing Revs on a C64. And no sorry, getting the latest gamer-leet quad-cpu box with 8gigs of RAM is not an option for me.

Not read all answers as in a hurry so hope I don't cover old ground but wanted to ask you pirate dudes 1 question based on the original poster.
You kill other players at random because it is fun. Fair enough I understand that it is obviously fun. Do you ever stop to think though that you get fun from other people's misery. You cause the most misery to other players than any other activity in Eve. You would have a very hard time disputing this.
So why does it come as a surprise that you are often hated? If I done what you did I would expect to get abuse and wouldn't do it unless I was willing to take that abuse.
These killed players probably get fun from the game in other ways and I bet most of them don't cause others grief while doing it. In fact most of them probably do things that help other players.
Pirate players interfere negatively in other people's enjoyment of the game and very few other things in Eve do this.
So if you are going to be a pirate expect to get abuse and be hated by many, and like you all seem to love saying to people who moan at you
TOUGH!!!
And to those annoyed by pirates don't smacktalk, take action and give them PvP where you fight back. Any decent pirate should revel in this and if they don't then they are most definetely and a-hole.
PS - Need to say that in my short time in Eve I have met several honourable pirates and you all rock. You play the game but are decent about it. You guys are a valuable addition to the game.

Yes. Piracy, the actual ability to be a pirate takes time, effort, and skill.
Unfortunately 97% of the people out there blowing things up are too lazy to actually try to be what they claim to be... a pirate.
Sorry to say, there are very, very few true pirates in Eve. There are hunters (usually gankees who're looking to mete out a little blood vengeance), there are the hunted (typically gankers who run for the hills when 3 noob ships jump their BS), and then there are the rest...
Jackasses who sit on a gate in a chokepoint and just blast whatever comes through unless it has the 'alliance' star tab. They don't care who, what, why, they simply shoot.
Because, as you said, lazy is eazy. Being an assoriface is easy, and there are more of those out there than veldspar rocks in Empire.

I agree with you for the most part. When targets fight back, that's awesome. My greatest day so far in eve was when i attacked a moa in a belt, and he stood and fought, another moa and a caracal even jumped in to help him, it was a great fight.
I am a pirate, but i don't want to turn people from the game, and i do normally avoid killing really new players. and when they're a good sport, sometimes i replace their ship for them.
As a pirate, i do expect to be disliked as a direct result of my profession, but i also expect people to suck it up over ships that are worthless. When you lose a condor... it's not worth smack talking about. :D

Edited by: Justin Cody on 28/02/2005 20:32:09 sure its takes no real skill to kit out a geddon to snipe from 170 KM+ and insta lock a pod...but hey, it requires some effort to effectively plan out a successful gank at a choke point. I remember this week in Atlar where two geddons, a BB and a badger piled up well over 100 kills. I was their lil running dude and I'd just pick up the loot cans. Thats proper piracy right there. Nabbing your stuff and borking your ship. Now if we really wanted to we'd warp scramble you and demand you eject:-P but frankly that would only work really well in 00 and even then its not guaranteed. So if you jump in to a system and you see an armageddon or apoc or tempest over 140KM from your position prepare for incoming fire. Chances are you are already locked if you decloaked. You might be safe in a shuttle or a pod, but not always and only if you have insta jumps (convo me for those :-P)
