he CCP and players, I was just wondering how everyone felt about introducing a ORE freighter.
it would require the same skills but with 'ORE industrial' to 'V' and a new skill 'ORE Freighter'
i think this would be a great addition to eve.
thanks Ryan Owens

When you are designating a generic item such as cat, you use a cat. However, when the generic item being designated starts with a vowel you use an. Such as an apple or an ORE freighter.

Ahhh... a fellow grammar **** ;)

Actually, an ORE Freighter could potentially fill in a role that i'd suggested a little while back. Currently, courier contracts allow relatively new players to generate some income (if they have the often sky-high collateral, which i discussed in a previous thread, and won't do so again here), but when you look at the capacities of the hauling ships, there is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference between the standard industrial ships and the big haulers.
My original suggestion from previous thread would work well here; create a new hauling boat that works out to something like 40-60% capacity (max skills etc) of a big hulk, giving an intermediate stage that some players will want to aim for and others will just use because they're perhaps not taking so much around their courier route as usual.
Or whatever. So, +1 to an ORE Freighter if it fits in with my suggestion.

So yeah, regarding the burgeoning/flailing 'Courier' profession; everyone loves receiving things in the mail, its just nice to get something you didn't have to go out and collect for yourself. The following is a reiteration of something i suggested a while back but didn't really get paid attention to.
COURIERING!
I see this as being along the same lines as the Salvaging 'mini-profession'. It requires no skills to begin, short of the base salvaging skills, so couriering should be exactly the same. Perhaps with a 'Cargo Management' skill or something, giving an additional 2% per level cargo capacity to whatever ship they're flying - maybe with an 'Advanced Cargo Management' later on, or something. Anyways, the point is that they would get access to a courier ship (see above for rough outline), but ALSO a Line of Credit from CONCORD/whatever local authority is around. The idea being that when they accept a courier contract, the Line of Credit would take up x% of the Collateral, meaning that younger players could start couriering stuff around without having to borrow half a billion isk first! Of course, breaking the contract would result in an effective 'standings loss' to the NPCs supplying the lines of credit, meaning its going to be more expensive and therefore more difficult to courier stuff around in future - this'd work in much the same way as the current Security Status system works (its easy to be a good courier, and easy to turn bad, but going from bad back to good is a tough slog).
This would encourage couriering as a viable way of getting stuff moved around the galaxy, give new players some useful income and much-needed 'flight time' (ie, actively doing stuff) and flesh out the universe.
There were more details when i wrote this last time, but its nice outside so im going to go enjoy the sun. --

Edited by: Ri****ulo on 03/06/2011 13:27:18 There has long been talks of some kind of ship that narrows the gap from +/- 100km3 of the ORE industrial to the >700km3 of the freighter.
Be it a ORE ship or a QUAFE ship, there is a place for such a vessel in the game.
And now for some grammar! (I have no idea if what i am saying is right)
ORE is a company and as such does not constitute a name in itself. So i say a ORE ship because it abreviates a company ORE ship Where i talking about the player Olga then i would perhaps say an Olga ship
Ah, the joys of grammar! kekeke |

It actually abbreviates an Outer Ring Excavations ship. Since the name of the corporation is Outer Ring Excavations, you need to use 'an' instead of 'a.'
That being said, I would love to see a smaller freighter that has a base of ~240,000m¦ cargo capacity. Slightly smaller than a JF, and likely significantly cheaper.

-off topic drivel-
What your post boils down to is "I like this if you change it to be my idea" and off topic crap.
I can't see the need for another general purpose freighter, but maybe and ORE freighter that just had a huge mineral bay (seeing as ORE is a mining company and all).

Oh noes. You've seen right through me, cut me to the core and made me stop and realise that you dont have the balls to post derogatory remarks with your main character. Or read posts properly (ie, the part where i mentioned i'd already suggested this, and my version of the idea had a lot more fleshed out and considered propositions).
But never mind.
Also, that 'off topic drivel' could, if you really really feel it needs it, be cut down to;
"Rather than add a ship to fill a space/create a role, here's an actual in-game function/role for it to fill, offering new and old players the chance to do something other than spin ships in a station or take 5 courier runs/hire a massive hauler - this would be of obvious benefit to the entire game and the players' activities and desires within said game."
But clearly reading through more than 3 lines of text was too frustrating for you..
And now to directly address what you wrote that didnt involve lambasting someone because you only read the first few lines;
Originally by: GavinCapacitor I can't see the need for another general purpose freighter, but maybe and ORE freighter that just had a huge mineral bay (seeing as ORE is a mining company and all).
The need has been discussed above your post, and alluded to within my first post. If you need it spelled out for you, here goes.
One day mr hauler had a tiny ship for taking big stuff from one place to another. Mr hauler wanted to take things from A to B, but would require either 6 trips or several weeks/months training to reach the big hauler ships to do the same job in one trip!
What myself and the OP are suggesting is a mid-sized hauler that would take less training/skills to use, and is smaller than the big ships and bigger than the smaller ones.
I suppose i could draw a diagram... --

I would be happy with an update that added one rig slot for a rig on a current freighter.
