Edited by: MaiLina KaTar on 03/06/2011 11:37:28 Hi,
see topic.
Did Smash the supplier L4 yesterday. It almost destroyed my speakers :/ I enabled "quieter turret sounds" in audio options yet for some reason the game decided to have the apoc NPC's laser turret sound blast out at full volume. Since I have the other audio levels lowered somewhat to be able to hear my people on TS3 properly, that incident not only almost gave me a heart attack and sudden deafness, it also forced me to turn off game sound out of fear of destroying my sound system cause the game wouldn't stop blasting out those turret sounds no matter how far I zoomed out.
This is just one of many things that are very... VERY wrong with your game's sound engine. It's about high time you hire some people capable of bringing Eve's sounds on par with the rest of the game. It's kinda ridiculous that your management doesn't seem to realise just how important good sound is to a game... and in what sad state it currently is on Eve.
Looking at the credits section on your client there's like two or three people on the sound engineering department. This is absurd. Hire more people. Do whatever it takes to fix your game's sound engine and for f*'s sake hire some engineers capable of putting together some sound effects that don't suck.
Thank you.

The sound of my 800mm ACs is really nice though. I hate the 425mm sharp rattle but the 800mm "booms" are enjoyable.
But yea I usually play EVE with sound at 25% and listen to music. And if the NPCs are too noisy I just zoom out.

Edited by: MaiLina KaTar on 03/06/2011 11:52:23 Yeah some of the sound are okay, but their quality still sucks. They're either dull and muffled or screechy and totally lacking bass and oomph. Most if not all of them have a pretty annoying level of distortion, which is either a result of horrible mixdown or the sound engine messing up compression and level to no end. Or maybe both. Whoever mixed them didn't know what he/she was doing, sorry. The sound engine just puts the nail in the coffin.
Most sounds need to be replaced asap. For example the "lock target" sound just sucks major ass. Its about as annoying as it gets.

Yeah, let's see how long it takes :)
The fact that this phrase even exists should be pretty damn alarming to CCP, though.

I have always had sound problems with this game, usually the sound of the jumpgate hum sticks on and I have to disable/re-enable sound, sometimes I have to restart the client to get it off. Been like this for YEARS... on at least 4 different computers. |

Indeed, Some sounds could be a bit better, Also in medium sized fleets my sound seems to cut out, Now could be my sound card but i highly doubt it as I'v recently just bought a top spec PC, Dunno if anyone else has had this issue but pressing ESC to go into the menu makes the sounds come back for a short time. :S |

Its interesting you point out the "ESC" thing I used to have to do that for a time but it has stopped, and lately I been having the problem above, how odd we have had the same problem but it went away for me. I did buy a new computer last year, I guess I need to send CCP my soundcards....

Obligatory "Eve has sound?"
For me, I play with sound disabled, it seems to be a bug with the Intel p975 chip-set. It was well whined about at the time, but CCP did nothing. Each new expansion I attempt to enable sound, the game crashes/locks and sometimes reboots the PC.
Guess I'll have to wait until I get a new PC.

It's strange..
People complain they want more realism in EvE, now they complain about the sound. You do know there is no sound in space? I just turn sound off and be done with it.

Edited by: MaiLina KaTar on 03/06/2011 12:32:39 Well it's been whined about since just over 7 years now. And somehow you gotta at least keep a background noise of whine, aye?
Maybe we should take Torfi / Hilmar and force him to play the game 48 hours straight with all sound full volume on HiFi headphones. Should either make em suicide or finally flip the right money switches to get the sound up and running.
Quote: People complain they want more realism in EvE, now they complain about the sound.
F* realism. I want that boom bap pew pew!
Plus, if you actually read the backstory you'd know why having sound in Eve is very "realistic", foo.

Yup. There's a chronicle somewhere that explains it. They should edit that chronicle adding the fact that pods simulate that much realism by completely f*ing up the sound

The sound engine seems to have an issue with mixing all sounds together. You run hardeners, the repper and fire your guns but all you hear are the impact sounds of incoming enemy fire or the "Lollipop!" broadcasts from the rats. -------- Due to bandwidth streamlining, signature images are no longer displayed. Mine does something really weird. The sound will get very quiet, pretty much is like there's no sound. If I crank my system volume I can hear the sounds but it has a lot of static on it. Not sure how to reproduce, it's pretty random. Unfortunately, I can't upgrade the drivers on my Audigy 2ZS, the new ones break all the control panel apps, and they didn't bother fixing them.
My guess is some sort of EAX problem, I get problems with some games randomly maxing out the volume when EAX is enabled in the game, this is just the reverse. More than likely have to upgrade drivers since these are from like 2004. Probably just buy a new card eventually. If the control panel apps are going to break and all sorts of other nonsense, not really worth upgrading the drivers. Last time I tried, I couldn't revert without using drivercleaner to find all the garbage keeping me from reverting to the original drivers.
If I enable or disable the sound in the client, whole thing locks up and I have to kill the process. - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring |

Ya when I fit Large pulses or if someone else has large pulses (NPC included) the laser sound is loud no matter if Im zoomed in or zoomed all the way out, very annoying.
Sometimes I have the low ambient engine thruster sound, sometimes I dont. Ive tried swapping my 7.1 Xgame SB soundcard for my older 5.1 SM Audigy..same random issues.
Sounds fun if it is working properly.

i really love eve music but eve sound effects are utter crap the sound of rails and other weapons... the "smack talking" NPC's are better all experienced zoomed all the way out.
oh and there missions where judging by the music you going to personally take over that faction only to kill a lonely npc and warp out again, while talking to your agent the music "rocks" in the background.. like noone checked the mission vs the music choosen...

I hate how the engine just loops the last sound forever when minimized. you could be sitting at a gate getting your ass shot off, but all you hear is the woosh of the warp you were doing when you minimized.
of course this don't happen when in windowed mode, the sound engine only stops updating when minimized in full screen mode

Well, its a lot better than it used to be. But there are still problems.
Its not as bad, but some effect sounds will stop when a turret goes off, for example. And I still can't turn off the comm chatter from NPCs on gates.

I'll jump in on this one and agree that the sound isn't very good in this game. I find most of the sounds annoying. The only sound I should find annoying is the low shields sound. The other sounds should be cool.
When my autocannons fire, I want the explosion to reverberate down through the inside of my ship.
But regardless, the sound isn't why I play eve... And I'm not all that worked up about it.

I would also love to see the sound-engine fixed.
Looping sounds on a non-focused client is annoying, but the single most annoying thing for me, is that exiting Sisi or Duality (or even logging out to change character) puts my soundcard into a seriously rapid stutter-error of some kind that won't go away unless I reboot my machine.
It's done it on two different cards for a while now :( - but never happens on TQ.
Going into Task Manager and cancelling the Eve process doesn't crash the sound though, so that's my workaround for now...

You should be, though. Everyone should be.
Sound is so important for a good game. It's the essential tool to use when you're trying to deliver the athmosphere and make certain events really stand out and become something special.
Don't believe me? Just play one hour of Homeworld 1/2 and you'll instantly hear what I mean. And as soon as you go back to play Eve you'll notice something very very important is missing. Cause most often it's not the shiny laser beams you see on screen that'll make you go "**** yeah eat that, b***h!" as you go blow up some stuff, it's the explosion sound effects.
Edit: Might also take a look at the Eve Dominion trailer to see how the game is actually supposed to sound like.

Sound has been borked since Dominion, and there are many threads about this issue. All have resulted in little or no reply from CCP.
The sense of immersion that once existed in Eve via the audio is gone forever. It is apparently not considered a priority and therefore not worthy of any resources to fix it.
Learn to live with it, buy some cheap speakers to use while playing Eve, and put your good equipment to other uses.

Eve's sound is fine.
I fly gallente hulls, and joined a corp that flies...other stuff.
I joined a fleet with a rail BS (because lulz), and was having to fly while laughing insanely while corpmates complained about the heart attacks they were given by the sound of my guns firing.
ALL weapon sounds should cause heart attacks. The truth is that most other sounds are horribly muted and wimpy compared to the awesome power of gallente hybrid technology.
