I noticed after this most recent patch the lock hotkey is functioning like a stickykey. I press it down plus mouse click to lock and game doesn't recognize the key as being released. I have to press it down again to make it so my ship doesn't try locking everything I click.
It's starting to get annoying locking stuctures and wrecks I'm trying ot orbit, not to mention when it tries to lock stargates that are AU's away from me.
I tried clearing the cache, and that did not work.

Confirmed. This is happening for me as well and it's ****ing the hell out of me too. Holding the key for 1 sec doesn't make it stick, but holding it for 2-3 secs makes it stick.
The same applies to other combat keys like "A for Align" or "S for Warp". The sticky effect on ctrl is preventing me from selecting things normally on the overview constantly because it tries to lock everything. The A one really annoys me because it makes my ship start to align and move in directions i dont want it to constantly. It makes me drift off from my sentry drones, then suddenly the drones get aggro and i have to pull them, and "oh look! you're 7k away from your drones! watch them die now!". This is proving annoying and is an expense waiting to happen :-(
I dont mind this as a feature, but please let us turn it off!

If i wanted targeting to be set as a Toggle button i would have chosen that in the shortcut settings now please fix the broken --"Lock Target" (Hold) CTRL + Target = Lock on-- , and let the users decide if they want to use the optional --"Toggle Lock Target" (Hold for 2 seconds) CTRL = Toggled Lock on Function-- or not TY
By the way the unlock shortcut has the same functionality problem as its been switched to a toggle button..
This leads to lots of unintended lock ons and missed targets.. |

Nearly lost my first Vaga on her maiden voyage due to this. Plus I have a corp mate who had this happen at least once a day to him. Its really frustrating and annoying.

you know, once you get used to this issue, it's kinda useful.
tap ctrl and you can lock anything just by clicking it with the mouse. ---

As i said, i dont mind it as a feature, because i can see how some people would find it useful. However please let us turn it off, this is an unadvertised change in how the basic UI interaction works and it is annoying a lot of us. It has to be a bug since there is also a "lock toggle" keybind that you can set up. However the keybind for just "lock" now appears to go into a toggle mode when held for 2-3 secs, this just isn't right :-)

well you *can* turn it off.
I do agree however, that the way to turn it on should have a different mechanic than just pressing ctrl. ---

Sure it's some bug, look at the bindings page and you still see something like "Target: CTRL+Mouse L-Click"
CCP, where adding new bugs is not unintended, it's an hobby /sarcasm

I have this problem too. Everything i click on in space and on my overview gets targeted. It doesn;t move my ship, though, if i just click in space. How on earth do you turn this "feature" off? Ctrl-Click is fine for me, i don;t want to be targeting everything i click.

Just another indicator that most CCPers don't actually do any pvp stuff. No pvpver would allow this to stay in, it's rather useful for miners though and makes targeting those rocks a whole lot easier!

Edited by: Cosmoes on 05/06/2011 12:22:35 I've also been having this problem. It doesn't help at all, not sure if it will be a hindrance or just another thing to watch out for once I get used to it.
Two other thing's I've noticed since this patch
1. I sometimes find my ship traveling off in a random direction. Could just be miss clicking due to dual boxing, but the fact that it happened once a day before patch and every 15 minutes after a patch is suspicious. I'm wondering if there is some other sticky key hotkey CCP added that is causing this.
2. I've been finding it mildly slower to loot through a mission in my noctis. If I right click on the can items too quick it doesn't give me the option "select all". I know I should use ctrl + a but my fingers are busy, is there an easier way to move all items from wreck to cargo hold? Also finding occasionaly when I go to drag all the items I get some sort of window drag mode, not exactly sure what is causing this so if anyone knows how to avoid it this would be helpful. ------------------- piccy |

If you took the time and read the other billion threads on this topic, and also the known issues and work around thread for the Incursion 1.6 patch, you might have found out if you tap the control key a couple of times without touching any other keys, it will stop the locking of anything you click on. It worked for me anyway when the key got sticky.

How many times? -10? 20? -ok I got it, it's the new Chinese gym form in world of space sims

Getting keys to unstick really isn't a problem, you just hit the key once more and it stops sticking. You dont have to do any window cycling with tab or such. However the functionality is still undesirable and potentially dangerous in pvp as someone pointed out :-)
For the person who said that their ship is travling off in random directions? I'll bet you may be suffering from the sticky A key for align or something similar as well. Happens all the time for me as well now, and i drift off from my sentries in missions which is frustrating to say the least :-D

This really helps out while in the middle of a frig fight, not all of us use short cut keys just to shoot NPC's. lol
This has made the game unplayable for PVPing in fast ships or anything that needs to kite it's target out side of scam range. Not to mention if I'm fighting a target on a gate, I really don't want to target a gate in the middle of a fight while cycling weapons...
This isn't a option it's a crappy bug.

In addition to the hair pulling, keyboard smashing frustration of all the shortcuts sticking I've noticed something else.
I recently rebound my target/unlock target to alt/alt-shift cause it's easier to hit it with my thumb. Of course I cleared the lookat shortcut however it isn't clearing.
Targeting works fine, however when I go to target an object in space and not the overview it reverts to look at, resulting in the annoying reset camera/zoom out task.
Just confirming that I've checked multiple times that the look at shortcut in combat shortcuts is cleared (it wouldnt let me use alt for targeting if it wasn't).

Terribly annoying bug, and rather not just Locking issue but Unlocking too. Say, you are logistic pilot, have multiple ships locked. You need to unlock one of your targets and place your reps on a second target. You press Control+Shift+Click to unlock first guy and this is where "unlocking" gets sticky, even if you release Control&Shift. You simply click on your second target to activate your reps and guess what - he gets unlocked too, and by the time you lock him back he's dead. As far as I can tell every single pilot is currently affected, except for those who don't use shortcuts. |
