What I don't understand is people are ranting and raving over this lack of "transition" when we've lacked the display of us being "towed to the station" and to our "parking spot" in the station.
Frankly, I'd find seeing the same exact pod animation every time I enter a station to be tiresome and annoying after a few months.

Yeah, it is kind of silly.
EvE is about loading screens, not immersion. So this exposed pod is right up their alley.

Frankly, all it would take would be a single news item describing how thanks to new technology, pods no longer require you to float naked in goo, but rather the goo has been replaced with a much more convenient gaseous medium. This would remove the need to be naked, to breath the liquid, to have a tube up your butt, etc. and greatly reduce the time necessary to leave your ship when docked.
Since we are pretty sure that there are soon going to be changes/updates to the lore about how cloning works, it's not a stretch at all to see the lore updated on the whole pod experience.
Of course, if this happens, we will have nerds bitterly arguing about what is still cannon and what is not. ===== The world will not end in 2012, however there will be a serious nerf to Planetary Interaction. |

Why would you think it would be a mandatory video, if there even ever would be one? It's not like you don't ever have to see the intro again, for example.
I guess I'm in the group of people who think that the description of pods and how they work was pretty awesome until now. Sure, it's their setting and they're free to change and alter whatever they want to, but I'd still miss it.
Anyways, </nerdrage> for now

You have to admit that it would be pretty lame if they did that. A company spends years building an IP and a label, only to change it on a whim because they were feeling lazy and didn't want to map and texture an extra room?

Yeah, looks like in 3 years time CCP went from wanting to do a game changing, amazingly realistic ambulation experience to a we're like WoW only in space mentality.

I'm not sure how I would feel about it tbh. I tend to think I'd get over it pretty quickly. It would all depend on why the change was made, if there was a gameplay related reason for the lore to evolve.
If this change "needed" to happen because of technical limitations, or due to content that simply wouldn't work in conjunction with the "pod goo" lore I could adapt with little difficulty.

Pod should only leave the ship when it is destroyed. Body should only leave the pod when it is destroyed. People should only walk around on your screen when you are not playing Eve.

That's .. unrealistic. You wouldn't want to lose contact with all other people even if it meant you could be one with some machine. That's not how we work.

I don't know why people think that once you are hooked up, you are hooked up for life.
The only purpose for pod piloting is to have a superior controller.
Do you really think they don't have social interaction outside a pod, ever?

No one thinks that. Some just think that our pilots don't get out of their pods everytime they dock. You don't leave your pod to just unload ore, or change ships, or pick up something you bought, or while waiting for your fleet to form up. Also, my pilots surely wouldn't want to get out of the safety of their pods in every seedy low-sec station they dock
