As some of you may know, I've been tinkering with the idea of an influence map for the Chinese EVE server (Serenity) for some time. A few different reports have been written about Serenity, all of which paint a picture of the null-sec alliances being very unified there. Although fully gauging the political situation on Serenity is difficult at best (this is hard on TQ without the language barrier), it is possible to draw a null-sec influence map based on the same data and factors the TQ influence map uses.
Thanks to some outside help, everything has finally fallen into place to draw a regular Serenity influence map. Serenity does not have an API server, so previously getting data out of the game was akin to beating it with a wrench. The Reverence cache reader made this a more practical method, however with Serenity running over a year behind Tranquility, Serenity was still pre-Dominion. In the last month Serenity has been upgraded to Tyrannis, bringing Serenity's sovereignty mechanics in-line with TQ's. As a result it's now possible to draw a complete influence map of Serenity.
---
The basis of the Serenity influence map is the same as the Tranquility influence map: influence is calculated based on what systems an alliance holds and how long they hold them, and then distributed over space and stargates to determine the final influence level of any given location.
The point values, for those of you who are curious:
Sov 0: 5 points Sov 1: 10 points Sov 2: 11 points Sov 3: 12 points Sov 4: 14 points Sov 5: 16 points
Stations have a 6x multiplier, so 30/60/66/72/84/96 points respectively. Serenity has fewer stations overall, as they did not build up "fortress" regions like alliances on TQ did.
Ultimately the Serenity influence map follows the same formula as TQ, so the only difference between the two is the data source. TQ data is taken from the API and Wollari's estimated strategic index, while Serenity's data is ripped straight from the Serenity client's cache files. This means that the Serenity influence map is non-automated, since it requires interacting with the client to first request the appropriate data from the server.
---
At this point the plan is to generate the Serenity influence map on a weekly basis rather than a daily basis as with the Tranqulity map. This is both because the Serenity map can't be automated, and because quite frankly there doesn't seem to be a great deal happening on a day-to-day basis. New maps will be published every Sunday and dated accordingly.
For the rest of the month the Serenity influence map will be in Beta. I'm interesting in getting feedback to further improve the map. The big question I have right now is whether you guys prefer the alliance names in their original Chinese characters, or a quick & dirty Google translation into English. As an example of this, here's this week's map in both Chinese and English - note that system names and regions are already in English to make it easier to compare to TQ.

Edited by: Verite Rendition on 05/06/2011 09:22:25 Wrapping things up, as with the TQ influence map the Serenity map will be released under a BSD license once it's out of beta.
The latest version of the map: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/VeriteChina/Cinfluence.png
Archive of the previous maps: Map archive
The map is updated once a week.
Finally, as a reminder: 1. This is not an exact political map. Some systems and even outposts claimed by one alliance may appear on the territory of the other alliance, which is dominating here by influence. 2. This is not a power bloc map. I do not know the alliances' relationships or which alliances are in coalitions; I don't even speak the same language. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

They also have their own Drone Regions group, I daresay looking much like the Russian equivalents on Tranquility.

This is quite interesting. I've always wondered what the Chinese server looks like.
Anyone know if their sov system is exactly the same as on tq? I'm especially thinking about sov structure hp here, having 100+ of players shooting a structure seem to be a lot harder on a server whit only 5000 players online. Then again, perhaps most of those players are out in 0.0 and not in empire...

This is awesome. It's interesting comparing regions to TQ, Catch seems to have a really similar station layout. It also seems ridiculous that some alliances hold space north to South in patches. Yo Ray! |

The sov system is exactly the same, both in mechanics and in HP. Here's a quick screenshot of the stats of a large tower, a TCU, an I-Hub, and a Jump Bridge just for comparison purposes.

Send it to Chribba or Wollari. Without them these maps wouldn't be possible, and they're the ones incurring all the real costs of running servers. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Correct. As I noted in the OP, it's a quick & dirty Google translation. The translations can always be improved in the future if someone here is actually fluent in Chinese. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

I find it really interesting that the borders and frontlines (assuming the alliances are an equivalent to powerblocks on TQ) are more or less the same as on our server. And is that an invasion of Tribute in progress too? ---

Looking at some of your comments it's funny how some like the way their political map looks. I think someone said there's only around what, 5000 on the server? There are entire alliances with close to that number. Imagine taking the entire population of Red Alliance and giving it it's own server. When you cram 10 times the amount of people into the same space with the same game mechanics, of course there's going to be more friction. I'd be interested to see what their map would look like if they had similar numbers as TQ...
Still pretty cool to look at. Quality work Verite.

For starters, Red Alliance only have 2000 members Secondly, 5000 concurrent connections does not mean 5000 players. There will be far more active accounts than that ; just look at TQ ; we peak at about 51k most weeks and the record is 61k, yet there are 300k active accounts (at least that's the oft-quoted figure I see).
