Edited by: Lord Wamphyri on 06/06/2011 22:22:58 I just heard that Star - the dog who was shot 40 times in the head and buried alive - finally succumbed to her injuries today.
It makes me wonder how people can be so barbaric.
Taken from the YouTube memorial video comments:
Originally by: YouTube Video Comment ''Star, the mixed-breed dog which was rescued near Ghar Hasan after having been shot, bound and buried alive, died this afternoon.
The sad news came less than 24 hours after hundreds of people took part in a demonstration against animal cruelty - the biggest protest of its kind ever held in Malta.
Star, whose plight shocked the nation, had been under care at St Francis animal welfare centre and had been thought to be making good progress. She was operated upon soon after the rescue, and 40 gunshot pellets were removed from her head.
Star died at 3 p.m. today after having suffered an acute inflammation in her pancreas which developed in the past few days.
Just last Saturday the dog spent a few hours with her new would-be owners in order to get accustomed to them and her new surroundings. But she then started throwing up and was returned to the welfare centre.
The dog's plight drew attention in many countries and many people had offered to house her.
The death of the dog quickly made it to the international media, including CNN.''
Sleep now, Star, nobody will ever hurt you again.

'The dog that lived' is in reference to her surviving being shot 40 times, tied up and buried alive.

Honestly, eye for an eye should apply when it comes to animal cruelty imo. - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring |

Why does everyone say this, but no-one ever actually forms a posse?

Unfortunately shooting someone in the head 40 times the burying them is still illegal...and I have too much going on in my life to go to prison for the rest of it :P - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring |

I'm sure I'd live through being shot 40 times with bb pellets. The dogs just a ***** that needed to man the **** up.
I'm sure the Koreans have a nice recipe in mind for the dog.

Would probably go good with parsnips. Do you know Jreedar Taree? Tell him I totally didn't mean it, I was going for my point but I misclicked and hit my grouped pulse lasers.
Oh c'mon word filter, it's pen island! No need to filter it

Reading about this just reminds me of why I wished we had a law that neuters all people who commit cruelty for no reason whatsoever so that they do not pass on their subhuman genetics. I hope the mental defective dies in his own rectum blood after being shot with the same gun that was used to shoot the dog.
Hows that for cruelty?

Except looking into human history they are more human than normal people, also as illustrated by your post

I still find it amazing that people all over the world will rally behind a dog somebody tried to kill, while there are children sleeping under whichever bridge Bob the Rapist isnt under tonight.

Dogs are worthwhile creatures to protect and where I live children sleep in a house with their parents or legal guardians. The problem isn't that people care too much about dogs, it's that your kind doesn't care enough. Caring isn't a non-renewable resource. It won't run out even if you care and show compassion towards other sentient creatures besides human beings.

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or "that's a lot of money for just a dog."
They don't understand the distance travelled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."
Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog."
Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted.
Some of my saddest moments have been brought aobut by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."
"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person. Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.
So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.
"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.
I hope that someday they can understand that its' not "just a dog" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a man" or "just a woman."
So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog," just smile, because they "just don't understand."

When I heard about Star initially, I was really upset, then happy she survived, then really angry. And I rarely get angry but I love dogs.
Now I am so sad she passed away. I put animal abusers only one step above paedophiles to be quite honest. Both are abusing small defenceless things that trust you until they learn otherwise.
I really hope the perpetrator has a terrible life.
