So I read all these posts about people saying Dust will fail and "how do we mess this up for CCP." Are you guys morons?! Why in the heck would you try to throw a wrench in CCP's income instead of embracing it and helping them make it better and more profitable? If Dust starts making bank for them, there's a good chance that Microsoft would do something to allow the same as what SOE is doing with them once the exclusivity contract expires. More money for CCP means more innovation and ideas that help both the EVE community and the Dust community as well as other ideas for games that link in the future. Instead of crying about it, work to help them make more money and make their games more streamlined and winsauce..it does nothing but make their entire community better.
TL;DR - Stop whining and naysaying and start promoting.
PS, I don't own a PS3, but I might depending on how the reviews go for Dust. Sure that's what the intention is, I'm sure, however, in the future, there may be an XBOX title as well.

Agreed. Dust could be great, but if it doesn't have tons of support RIGHT AWAY it will fade away very quickly under yearly modern warfare releases.

If CCP starts paying me for it IŠll gladly do their marketing.
Otherwise IŠll say what damn well pleases me and ponder buying a fricken PS/3 next summer.

You quite don't understand. It failed already and buried deep underground. No amount of paperwork and paintjob would bring it to life. -- Thanks CCP for cu |

Originally by: Nizran L'Crit Instead of crying about Dust, why don't you support it?
Because many of us have supported ccp for years and instead of fixing what we've been begging for (for years)they throw time and money into something we pc gamers get nothing out of. Thats why.
Why is the gallente race still useless? One whole race..useless in pvp but nothing is done. Just one example. I trained gallente and maxed it out..I'm not paying another two years to train another race. How hard can it be to fix hybrid weapons? But never mind,it's not worth the time..read the forum because it's all been said a million times.

Edited by: Goddess Ishtar on 07/06/2011 20:01:34 I'll try and use small words so you'll understand. If CCP wanted to go out and make a horrible console-only stand-alone fps I doubt anybody would care. It's the fact that they are trying to force the console kiddies to play with the Eve players that most people have a problem with. There is no way that DUST is going to succeed but since it's going to be tied into Eve there's a very real chance that it will drag Eve down with it.

I refuse to support something that is linked to Eve and flagrantly promotes microtransactions for performance enhancing 'items'. It's going to be popular for a few months then people will get bored with it and be playing the next FPSh*te to come along leaving Eve with yet another 'feature' that fails because of a lack of consoletards influencing our spaceship game. ~~~

- Nobody knows about DUST 514 apart from the EVE online community. Just watch the response from the audience in the video. What is this game? Who's CCP? New sony pet?
- How is DUST going to impact EVE? PI is not worth fighting over, and guns on planets are not something worth destroying if you can simply stay away from the planets (if there will be 3 AU railguns, I want them on my ship). Can we have info's on what awesome stuff we're gonna fight for? Ty.
- For what I've seen the military seems to be a little over-priced in DUST. 375.000 ISK for a soldier? How about buying a rifter with t1 guns and strafing that bridge? Problem solved.
- Nuke option? Click-to-win doomsday devices were just removed and now DUST nukes aka dreads in orbit? Better not be. I'd love to grief some DUST players though.
- Not for xb.. oh forget it.

I guess what I am trying to understand is that you guys are all listing fears and rage, but, you know that this is how it's going to be. I liken this to a parent telling their kids to do homework and instead of doing homework, they just sit in bed or walk around in circles complaining that they have to do it.
In the end, the kid flunks his classes, goes nowhere and their parents get lol'ed out of the school and deal with frustration and give up.
Flip side of this is that if he/she does the homework, they get a better grade, go to college, go on to become relatively successful and both the parents and the child benefits. I understand the issues everyone is bringing up, but this is the way it's going to be, why not embrace it instead?

People, by large, seem to be intensely afraid of anything that's new. Why are you putting it down so much? Dust is -already- coming out. No amount of whining will stop CCP from putting it out. Also, no amount of whining will make CCP put the game on the Xbox, for a multitude of reasons.
All whining will do will stomp Dust popularity into the ground until no one will want to play it. But honestly, WHY do you want to punish something that's new and original? Why do you want to prevent new content from being introduced into the gaming industry?
Why can't people simply be positive, and choose to give the game the benefit of the doubt until it's proven to be bad and ruin everything?
Honestly. I can't understand people nowadays.

I think the idea of DUST is a great idea, it expands the game, even though I won't play it, I'll read the stories and see what there is to see on youtube, etc.
I suspect many of the "whines" comes from a few things - it's not on such and such a platform, and it's going to have micro transactions, transactions that will somehow slip their way into Eve and effect all of us, albeit ever so slightly, in the overall in-game currency markets.

i don't see much reasons to support a game i would i liked, but that they refused to put on our hardware. and do original concept really works on console ? i really doubt that.

What's wrong with you two? Heck, what's wrong with EVE? Yeah, so some things are buggy and broken. So are a ton of things in real life. You fix one thing, another thing breaks. Nothing will ever be perfect.
Do you really think that if Dust fails, that CCP will just shrug their shoulders, turn their back on it, and go back to EVE purely?

Edited by: Lefty Twotimes on 07/06/2011 20:30:13 It was a mistake to make it PS3 only. I even have a PS3 but it does not change anything. A limited market on a console system in direct competition with every other major shooter while putting the game on a platform that CCP's already existing fan base does not all have. I get if they don't want to deal the the xbox's networking policies or the like but no PC version as well? Maybe they are doing something far different from what it seems but I don't have the world's highest hopes for the life span of the game. When it comes time to buy a shooter is Dust 514 going to be the best value for my money? I guess we get to wait a year and see.

I feel it is hard for me to get into the idea of Dust514 is the lack of support for the XBox. I don't really enjoy the PS3 and with the advent of all the security issues that Sony has been having. I don't have the confidence that making a $300 investment for a $60 dollar game is worth the risk of having my identity stolen.
I don't know if it has been published as to why there is no Xbox support for Dust514. In my opinion it has a far superior online network the Sony's anyway.
Maybe in the long run CCP will come to the realization of how many potential customers they are losing by disenfranchising XBox owners.

What security issues? They were hacked once. By an elite group of hackers whose only goal was to discredit Sony, by which they succeeded. No one's information was actually stolen, as far as I know. Sony has since vastly improved their security, and made amends by giving out two free games.
Believe me, when someone is at the target of the internet's anonymous, no one can hold their ground. This would be true even if the hackers had chosen to target Microsoft.
So where exactly is Sony at fault? For not being prepared against a group of professional-level hackers?

It isn't my job to promote CCP products, if they make good products and stand behind them while not ****ing me off then I may or may not choose to 'promote' their wares. I'm under no contract nor am I compensated to do their marketing team's work in promoting their products.
My 'issues' are the ties to EVE from another IP and being sure they don't 'ruin' EVE in trying to be innovative and creating something new. I doubt this will 'ruin' EVE for me but it may have a chance at doing so for other EVE players, namely those involved in null where sovereignty is and issue. I'm not interested in ruining Dust514 or making it fail, if Dust514 players can 'affect' my game I only demand the right to 'affect' their game. I'm not just talking about sending them isk or Aurum so they can buy toys and have fun in an FPS.
TLDR: I don't work for CCP, they 'work' for me, feel free to do their jobs promoting DUST514 if you choose.

I kind of understand what you are saying, OP. CCP like any corp wants to grow. They can't with EVE because of the sand box religion that says they can't run a second server and EVE won't take more Pop. It can't handle what it has now. See fleet battles and node crashing for more.
I do like WiS. I think it has growth. Dust I don't see having the impact either CCP or Sony would like. I also expect any aurum going in to Dust is going to come from us and we will be the backers of console campaigns to either inflict damage on an enemy or control the market. That will work for someone like Goonswarm who aren't EVE origin but MMO origin and have the advanced player networks.
All that said, I don't see it being a cloud over my head. My ships will live and die oblivious to the wars that may or may not happen on planets. |

The issue with your logic is that much of marketing occurs via person-to-person hearsay. If one person sees an awesome commercial, they pass it onto their friends, family, dogs, parents, who ever. In our case, its our fellow gamers.
We aren't spending anything but our own minute amounts of free time in telling other gamers to cheer up and look ahead towards the future. In fact, the time spent writing the post you just did could be better spent promoting and suggesting that people stop complaining and instead hope for the best. Am I wrong?

You may want to brush up on recent history. PSN was down for the last few weeks because some hackers found a security hole you could drive a four by four through with room to do a three point turn in, took a load of peoples details, (In the ~millions) and left. Then they attacked sony's music network in japan, SoE's mmo network, etc. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

As I'm aware of, they cannot actually do much of anything with the details they did manage to steal. They can probably make a few angry phone calls to your house, at that.
Besides, my point is that at one point or another, **** happens. If those same hackers had decided to turn to Microsoft, perhaps they too would have fallen. Who knows? What I do know is that Sony has since fixed their security breach. What good do we do in continuing to complain?
