Don't you think that it's time to introduce more various salvaging equipment? Adding salvagers and tractors of different sizes should create more various and balanced approach to salvaging wrecks, and might hold newbie-salvaninjas quite a bit.
Every salvager and tractor beam will require different amount of space/CPU/grid and cap to operate, making large equipment unavailable to smaller ships. And have the ability to salvage only wrecks of the same or smaller size.
Small Salvager/Tractor - capable to drag and salvage frig/dest classes of ships, can be fitted on any ship with high slot. Medium Salvager/Tractor - for dragging and salvaging cruisers/BC/T3SC and empire industrials, can be fitted on any ship from cruisers and larger + industrials. Large Salvager/Tractor - for BS/freighters, Orca and Noctis. Can be fitted on any large ship starting with BS and above. Capital Salvager/Tractor - for capitals and supercaps (not Titans tho) , can be placed only on ORE salvage ships. XXL (Supercapital) Salvager/Tractor - special for Titans, Orca exclusives.
Plus, with Incarna, salvagers and tractors will finally become visible (already on SiSi) and the problem is that... it's frigate size equipment. It hardly looks like a thing that can take apart giant battleship wrecks and even capitals. Same with small tractor beam. Could also introduce new skills required for salvaging larger wrecks and operation larger salvage equipment, though maybe it will overcomplicate things a bit.
Pros: 1) More choice. 2) Makes more sense and looks much better and realistic. 3) Less week-old newbie ninja salvagers. 4) ORE ships will become even more popular than they're now, and become something you MUST have in your hangar/corp for mission running. Cons: 1) More choice, some people don't like that I guess. 2) Overcomplicating things?

I like your idea. Salvaging is somewhat strange imo. If you want more sizes for salvagers, it`s better to also introduce similarly sized ORE ships for them. Armor shatters; Raven`s shadow obscures my sight; Capsule cracks. - Khanid Death Poem. |

While I was always wondering why the tractor beams are just small and capital I think one point of your list is actualy done:
You WILL want to have a Noctis for your salvager. Everyone who has one and used it will see it this way. The speed increase in cleaning out 200km diameter battlefields is so much faster with them and the entrypoint is well balanced. Just I think these ships should be able to use all gates...they don't supply any significant bonus to the battle itself and should be able to clean out every wreckfield.
Just a larger version for the Orca would be nice - double range and speed.

1st thing that needs to happen to rescue salvage as a proffesion is to nerf the noctis. Then make rewards *and skills needed* *and time taken* comparable with other professions.

I wouldnt mind a medium and large tractor beam that has either bigger range or higher speed, but Im not sure how a large and medium salvager would work. Pre-order your Sisters of ≡v≡ Exploration ship today, Updated 3APR11

I wouldn't say adding new items, as people would probably have a giant up cry *looks at the forum*, but maybe having a different model or size based on the ship size, while it's highly unrealistic. I think in general it would keep most people happy, people would see the beam on the ship, have it realistically scaled, and not have to panic when they no longer have the correct module for X ship.
But yea I agree with this idea, but I would like to see correct sizes for those things, and I really like the idea for the size scale. I mean honestly a tractor beam on a tiny little frigate should pull it to the wreck, not the wreck to it. I mean we have no gravity in space.

Good idea, either this or have a scaling system so you can atleast see the modules on the ship. I was disappointed when undocked my Noctis after checking the new module models in the module viewer. At first I even thought the modules where only implanted in the viewer and not yet in the game, the are embarrassingly small.
