From what I understand, once a bot is identified the account is shut.
Well, once CCP identifies a Bot, why not flag it so the rest of us capsuleer can have a little fun? Make them flashy red, then sit back and enjoy the show.

people talked about that months ago already. i think the answer was something like ; "but if they are not really bots you'll kill "innocent" people, and if we are sure they are they will be banned at this moment"

How about stopping their botting/use of account now as opposed to when someone decides to attack them? How about those in null they get to keep working since 'flashy red' only matters in highsec.
I'd rather the account be shutdown even if stupid temp 1/3 strikes than let it keep working OR be available as a 'pvp' suicide whatever character for the botter to play with.

If they are not really bots, CCP would be shutting down "innocent" accounts anyway. I'm not sure what criteria CCP uses to identify bots (and hopefully it is a sound one), but once done they should be permanent flashy red IMO. Adds to the embarasmment of having been found out and gives capsuleers a sense of adding to the defense of EVE.

OK, then make a seperate category for a "CCP sanctioned Bot kill." Make them FLASHY BLUE or YELLOW or whatver other color hasnt been used yet. Even in 0.0, I'm sure someone will participate in blowing them up. Whole bot killing corps will prob spring up out of this.

unbanning an account is already hard from what read about. imagine if the poor guy have to petition for dozen of lost ships due to being flashy pink would be a pain for him, a pain for the GMs... and of course image how many guys would report people they don't like hoping they will become easier targets
i like the concept, seems fun, but honestly, i don't think this concept could become real.

It's not about possibly killing innocent people, its because of two reasons that will never happen.
A) This would not work for all the bots in 0.0
and B) The bots would eventually and probably quite quickly put in a new code that once they are GCC they would just transfer all money, liquidate all assets and burn the character.
The immediate no warning ban prevents the isk currently stored in the character from spreading. Although the OP's idea would be fun it won't help anything.

I know. I just I'd throw this out there.
All I know is that a bot is nothing more than a digital device designed to repeat the same actions over and over. The "fingerprint" it leaves while "playing" EVE must be pretty sterile. When I mine, I do all sorts of other things. Check markets, use the browser, adjust skills, move my camera around, hit the Survey Scanner a few times...etc.
There is constant "noise" between me and the CCP server of other things going on while I mine. I cant imagine a bot doing this, and if it does, then the automated "time" it uses to do these things must be pretty regular. No human does things regularly on EVE.
Like I said, Im not sure what criteria CCP uses to indentify bots (hopefully it's an in-house secret), but once done without any doubts, then the rest should be up to the capsuleers.

Ah but that is the beauty of 1s and 0s in the programming world. Once identified, ALL other activities concerning that bot are frozen. NO isk transactions of any kind, not contracts, no transfer/trade of goods...no nothing. In fact they shouldnt even be allowed to dock ANYWHERE. All they would be allowed to do is log off.

And guess exactly what they would do :p Delete Char. and start a new account. If it were to be implemented it would maybe catch a few bots in the beginning but they would quickly catch on and add an addition to their code making bots shut down when they have been marked. It is much easier just to permaban them on the spot.

Once CCP definitely identifies a bot, stripping the account of assets and banning it is a much better response than just hoping some capsuleers stumble across it and destroy it. Which isn't even that likely in nullsec. And is of course impossible for market and PI bots.

Bounty them.
Make a new map setting to look for identified botters
Make systems with identified botters glow blue on this map setting.
Make it so entering a system provides you with a warning notice "Botters are active in this system!"
And, if you want, make them a warpable object when in space :)
If they dock for longer than 10 minutes, they should be auto-undocked.
If they log off, they should be ejected into space instead of logging out.

A) It's still pretty cool
B) CCP freezes their assets, and bots dont get blinky just after theyre found the bots would get blinky once the time was right, and the network was discovered and investigated
i realize that many people see only problems, but it's ok to have ideas, because some people at CCP can see solutions :) and i want to kill bots.
ok?

At the same time ccp rendered them gcc they could also disable trading on the account -- that way the isk would stay with the account. Bots provide lots of potential targets -- it would be nice if ccp simply gave the population the tools to weed them out.

once flaged would it not be possible to stop all transactions and trades from that account not just the character. Oh and flag them for podding aswell

The draw-back here is the assumption that one player is misidentified as a bot and thus loses his assets.
Well, has there ever been a case where a player was mis-identified as a bot and they petitioned to be re-instated?
Far as I know, NO.
Cataloguing IP addresses my help in this matter as well.

Why do you think this would work?
Lets assume you find a mining bot; its a flashy red mackinaw in an ice belt. Fantastic you kill it.
Then what happens? Oh right the ship blows up, you get a couple strip miners and then the bot owner comes back and see's himself docked up in his cloning station and realizes his accounts flagged.
He never undocks again, he never buys another ship, he removes all assetts from the account and just biomasses it.
So your great plan lets us kill a bot once; and then we never see them again because no ones going to be stupid enough to undock an account thats globally flagged to everyone.
I'm glad you thought this through moron.

Edited by: Debby Dallas on 09/06/2011 23:47:09 Then there are also those who will try to get red flagged as a bot. You assume its an easy target, warp in expecting some miner only to find a tricked out, PVP, anal ****, fitted whatever. lol

Fun OP, but not practical.
However, the thought hits me - stripped goods/assets should be put into slush fund for the "PLEX for XXX" causes. You may be an evil, worthless human running that bot, but some good can come out of your excuse of a life.

This is idiocy at its finest.
What is to stop somebody from:
1. Botting on a character. 2. Getting flagged as a bot. 3. Fitting the most expensive ship and stuff it full of everything they can at all times. 4. Having an alt kill them and collect the loot.
