Edited by: Mina Sulva''r on 10/06/2011 03:58:12 You know developers, coders, programers, software-engineers, etc. have always been placed on a super-hero pedestal by me. I love gaming and these guys and gals are like rock stars...well more like movie stars to me. They are creators of something I very much love as a hobby.
Doom by ID was the first PC game I ever played....(ahm okay Outpost was), and its what got me into PC gaming over consoles (thank god). Even though CCP holds a almost mystical, supernatural, divine spot as my favorite game company, John Carmack from Id has to be one of my favorite people to listen to when he gives a game related interview.
Hes speaking candidly with zero arrogance, and you can tell he really loves what he does. He doesnt talk down to the interviewer (even though the interviewer stumbles along with trying to ask competent questions). And though its an interview about Rage he doesnt try to hype it. As a matter of fact he doesnt even talk about all the "ground breaking" things Rage does different like most developers would, he really just talks about how his focus is on making the game more enjoyable, playable, and fun, without sacrificing quality.
He does such great interviews, and never once does he throw his intellect around. He also gives some insight into what we can should expect from PC games in the future, in terms of quality and playability.
John Carmack "Rage" interview. Enjoy!

Id was cool, when they made Wolfenstein, Doom and first Quake, but now they think only and only about money

If only Carmack and Sweeney could get over their design disagreements, we could have the god of all engines.

I'm guessing you meant to say "Q3A and Q3TA" since there is no such thing as plain Q3 (that name tends to imply Q3A).
But yeah, I agree. Played a fair bit of Q2 back in the day (mostly on dial-up with 200ms ping, woo!), and later on Q3 OSP became the MP game for me for quite a long time. D3 and Q4 were pretty entertaining games in SP, but I never really bothered trying MP. Besides, id's games all seem to be about competitive play (rather than having fun) and I'm too old for that **** now.
id may not be quite as godlike as they were back in the day, but the people behind the company certainly deserve a great deal of respect for their work.

John Carmack is a ground breaking programmer. He did curves in Quake 3 many years ago and still now most fps games don't do true curves.
I read sometime ago he got interested in aerospace as he saw a fresh challenge there.
*google trolls*.. When he was in the shower he saw saw bars of light on the wall and then thought about how that effect was acheived - genius.

I don't need a LICENSE to take a photoshooped image and lay it on top of the game client and make pretend my character is naked.
