Tech II shuttle, add on 2 low and one mid slot tweak its power and cpu to allow a MWD if you have high skills and you have it :)

Seems like a good idea. Racing in specialized ships makes me think of Daytona. Interesting actually.

i like that idea too putin a weapon on it like a mine or bomb would add a new factor kind of like when to use nos on need for speed

need to campaign for more race events as well... I for one am up for another opportunity to race (seeing as I missed out on colossus)
some sort of race ship is a niche in the game that hasent been reached yet though. They could be specialised ships given to racers exclusively or - and this is the useful bit - have them on the market.
I use shuttles to drop off ships at the agents i use them from and use a fast frigate to ferry between them from my base of operations. Racing ships would serve an excellent role in this as they could get me there faster and are more specialised for the purpose.
I also use the ferrying frigate for courier missions from combat agents. As in the races you would have to pick up items and ferry them around checkpoints, so the race ship would have a small (frigate sized) cargo hold so as to be of more use as a shuttle.
I agree with the no High slots as it focuses on blockade running rather than using its speed to pick off enimies. I believe it would make an interesting balance challenge for the devs
This would not mean the shuttle would be obselete as you would need those to pick up ships etc.
But like I said... its a niche that people wwould be interested to explore I feel

yea this ship could hav many different used in the game not just racin this could also bring the contraband market back up because it could do blockand runs and it would be harder for concord to lock it down.

maybe even make it imposible to warp scamble or web because it can't fight back any way and would also make races alot fairer for everyone and hopefully there would be alot more people finishin the race in a ship instead of in pods

Now this is a very good Idea, people apply to the race and have a primary in whatever ship they want, 1 week before the real race all racers get 1 unit of racing ship, if the racer fails to finish the race but the ship survives it is returned, all who finish the race get to keep the race ship :)

this is a good idea maybe they should release one racin ship that is a bit slower and that one could be sold to anyone and then an advanced version for the racin and like u said only get them when enterin a race but i would think they should be givin out about a month before so people can get them setup as best they can.

Edited by: Germain on 17/02/2005 12:59:07 it a great idea. new class of frig with no high slots and lots of med and lows - so racing weber can be used(new module) for fun at the gates. should be same weight agility of the fast frigs like rifter, but you could then add the nano hull's two or three of them to make very agile ships. edit:need to be quite expensive like high end sports cars.

good point i hav been waitin for someone to refer to racing modules and a racing web would be great to annoy gate campers but the racin modules should only be able to be used by racin ships but the ship should be a different class and should be light weight and extremly agile but not like a frig. also to make it fair it shouldn't be too strong hull and armor wise but should be stronger then an interceptor.

Other than that, I like the idea.
I also got some ideas for possible modules. (Which are Racer only.)
A NOS (as in the Need for Speed type, not Nosferatu) like module, that gives extreme short time speed and acceleration boosts, while using no cap. They stack with ABs/MWDs but use a special fuel that has to be carried in the cargohold. There could even be different fuel types that e.g. allow longer but weaker boosts. The device would have to 'reload' from cargo. (Pretty much like guns.) (High slot perhaps...?)
Special inertia stabs that are more effective than the normal ones.

I think the ships could have a high slot. However there is no turret/launcher hardpoint. And I'd like them to have ludicrously oversized engines. (Like the Star Wars Podracers... ratio pod:engines.) As in "Engines three times as big as the ship itself."
I'd also like some kind of special tuning system for the racers that is somehow different from the fitting for other ships. Designing and rebuilding the ship... though that'd probably be too much work.
Well. Now I depict Concord webbing and scrambling you, running you though an alcohol check and fining you for flying too fast. O_o.

Almost no cargo, shield, armor, or structure, same base speed as a shuttle but with a handfull of low and med slots and frigate level power/cpu/cap.
Would be a lot of fun.

A racing ship actually might be better as a tech II shuttle, after all. slightly increased cargo space (30-50 m3), 600-750 m/s, a medslot or two and a couple lowslots, slightly-increased power to accomodate a MWD, weaker armor and shielding (about 100 shield and 35 armor. As mentioned above, their engine systems should outsize the rest of the hull by at least 2:1.
I also like that Nitrous-like system. Probably be a liquid-hydrogen injector system, and mounted on a medslot (10 cpu, 2MW for a small), tiered for ship sizes and function just like a cap booster. They should not be stackable with each other, but stackable with an AB or MWD, and use H2 fuel stored in the cargo hold (no cap needed to use them). Rebalance and General Idea thread. Feel free to respond or post your own ideas. |

The Nitrous Oxide System should definitely be a hi-power module. Giving you a hell of an signature and exhaust plume, draining like a MWD. Increasing the base speed, not max velocity with MWD turned on.
Maybe it should have a CPU cost that rivalled Covert Ops Cloaking Device, so that the two ship types could mount each others special devices. Cloaked Racers would be much safer for the pilot.
