Here is my "old" card:
295GTX
Here is the card I see evga offering with Duke Nukem package (reasonable price too)
560GTX
Now at first glance my 295 appears to have better stats for the most part (with the exception its dx10 not dx11)
There is a lot that goes into this though, a lot I know I do not understand.
My old card seems to be two cards sandwiched together (individually, inferior to the 560). Together, are they really better???
Just got witcher 2, can't max settings (though I acknowledge there currently might not be a card that can do that comfortably)...
the fan on my 295 is starting to whistle now and again though i can stave it off a few days w/ some rem oil.
Part of me is just itching to get a new card that might be better. But if there isn't going to be a visible performance increase OR possible even worse, of course i'd rather not buy this 560 and hold off for something better.
Help me OOP-kenobi, you're my only hope.

Passmark rating:
GeForce GTX 295- 1711 GeForce GTX 460 SE - 2084 GeForce GTX 460- 2353 GeForce GTX 470- 2966 GeForce GTX 560- 2652 GeForce GTX 560 Ti - 2956
Theoretical raw shader power stats (GFLOPs):
GeForce GTX 295- 1788.480 GeForce GTX 460 SE - 748.8 GeForce GTX 460- 907.2 GeForce GTX 470 - 1088.64 GeForce GTX 560- 1088.6 GeForce GTX 560 Ti - 1263.4
Practical test results : from here to here. Note however that the review is for the 560 Ti, not the "just 560", which is weaker than the Ti model. Long story short - the 295 is sometimes better, sometimes worse compared to the Ti, and almost certainly almost always better than the non-Ti.
The only good reasons to get a 560 instead of your old 295 would be : * power consumption (170W vs 290W) and maybe noise * if you really, really want DX11 features and not just DX10.0 * if you're thinking of maybe going SLI mode (eventually) _

Differences appear to be nominal. Not worth throwing down cash.

I might finally upgrade my 8800 GTS 512 if BF3 nails it. 560 series cards look most attractive at the moment.

Should get the 570 HD (has the display port) then OC it to the 800/1600/1955 [Core/Shader/Memory].

It won't be announced before September, don't expect it to be released before 2012. It will also be bad, as per NVidia rules starting at the 4000 series:
4000: good. 5000: bad. 6000: good. 7000: bad. 8000: good. 9000: meh. 200: good. 400: meh. 500: good. 600: ???
I very much doubt they will break this cycle, so i'd stick with the 500's or wait for what the new AMD brings in September.

Right now they are redoing the chip and seeing what they can squeeze out, they had no new offering at Computex so we can assume the 500 lineup will be the standard into 2012. That being said they will probably look at more cores on their GPU's maybe do something like intel and AMD did when they hit the single core ghz wall. Add more cores on a single die. But thats just speculation. -------------

Either two additional fans glued on, and the one on the right fell off, OR just one extra that was originally glued on the right moved to the left.

The fan was originally on the right. I removed it then put it on the left. I have since added an additional fan on the right. Though the second fan has had little effect on heat dissipation.
My latest DIY mod creation is a large layered wooden enclosure for a SCSI hard disk I am using with an old HP workstation PC. As SCSI hard drives are intended for use in servers in separate rooms it is of no consequence if they make a lot of noise - and my one does. The enclosure is made out of cuts of spare wood and chipboard from the garage. It looks abysmal but the noise from the SCSI hard disk has been greatly suppressed.

Define "efficient".
Get more FPS regardless of heat ? Use less power for a certain target FPS ? Improve the cooling system ?
What exactly ? _

The early versions of the 400 where pretty bad, this was mostly down to the manufacturing process. Recent versions are much better, meaning less heat and power requirement issues.
I have the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 480 SUPER OC, it cost me ú210 and gives me 580 speeds.

I was merely copypasting and filling into Reiisha's very short list of "judgments", then kept adding more and more info without removing the initial text. I have a GTX 460 myself and I'm rather happy with it. _
