I had a question I posted in a thread in features forum... But I thought I would repost here in case any of you guys knew the answer...
Plus I though it might generate some interesting debates :-)
Say I am trying to outrun some people chasing me in my fast frigate... or any other reason I might want to move as fast as possible...
And I come off a gate align to the next and enter warp... But at the moment I enter warp a Big slow ship also enters warp and we end up on the same 'warp' grid as each other.... Do I get held up and only warp at the speed of the big slow ship, does the big slow ship get sped up to my speed, or do we go at some average of the two?
If accidentally warping at the same time as a slow ship while in a fast one lands you up going at the slower speed, would it be possible to change the code to make it so that you only 'lock step' in warp with fleet mates?
Also are you planning to have a look at warp speed acceleration at any point? atm its sooo slow you have to make a really long jump to actually notice being in a faster to warp ship. __________________________________________________

I've no idea my only thought when sharing a warp tunnel with someone I didn't know was "will my weapons work in warp?".
My thought is we shouldn't be slowed down or sped up but go on at our own ship's speed but I've no idea if that is how it works. Sharing a tunnel has happened so rarely I can't recall if the ships were of the same hull size/class or not.

Edited by: Ay Liz on 10/06/2011 23:25:36 My experience tells me other ships that go into warp at the same time do not slow you down. If you happen to get into warp to the same destination with a bttleship, and you sit in your interceptor, you stay in the same "warp bubble" during the acceleration phase. As soon as the battleship hits its maxium warp you outrun him and you are alone again. It only slows you down if you get fleetwarped and were both aligned.
And i think CCP said in the "Answer Everything" thread that they will look at it someday. But they may not like how it would turn out. I agree, the speed of an intercepter really only starts mattering in warps above roughly 40AU. It is just a matter of 1 or 2 seconds underneath that which is not enough to really intercept someone. More so because you always have to look for your targets destination before you warp after him if you can't get a point in time.

You won't find yourself slowed down or sped up by other ships who happen to be entering warp with you. You might spend some time in warp together until one ship accelerates ahead of the other to hit max warp speed.
The exception is with fleets. If you warp as a fleet, and as long as all ships enter warp at the exact same time (are already aligned at >3/4 speed), then all the ships will travel at the speed of the slowest during warp.

The only throttle on warp drive is fleet warp.
