ok IĈm I bit confused here, some missile ship configurations have up to 4 Ballistic control units? Yet under the description it says only the first one will be effective? is this a miss printer or bug? or are people just wasting slots?

only the first one is 100% effective. tthe second one just slightly less so, third one slightly less then second etc. Untill you get to 7 and then they get more effective again for some reason it seems.
So using 5 makes sense, altho you can forget surviving any drawn out fights in that case. But the idea is you wont have to since you killed your enemy before its get a long fight. _______________________________________________

I did a little post on stacking penalty some time ago. You can take a look at it here. __________ Capacitor research |

More effective than the previous module, but not more effective than the first module Takes a LOT of modules to start gaining more than the initial 10%.

Edited by: Shirei on 16/02/2005 14:29:53 It's a rather annoying and complicated formula, but as long as you stack equal damage mods, it more turns the stacking formula into an addition rather than a multiplication.
I.e. if the first damage mod gives 15% DoT, you get about 30% with 2, 45% with 3 and so on.

The formula is (mod_1 * mod_2 *...* mod_n)^((1/n)^0.25)
So for a module giving you 15% you would get (1.15*1.15)^((1/2)^0.25) = 1.15^(2^0.75) = 1.15^1.6817.. = 1.265 or 26.5% increase. It gives a little less than just adding the modules unless you have a lot of modules stacked and high bonus then it can start to increase again as you can see on this figure. __________ Capacitor research |

Do a test. Fit one balistic control and fire a torp at a can. Document the damage. Add another balistic control and repeat the entire process until you have five of them. The damage still does go up with each module.
