Because if I can't run two clients concurrently due to the CQ memory footprint approaching 800mb a pop, even with low res in-space textures, I won't be able to play eve in the way I am currently due to memory limitations. I can't justify a new pc (which is what would be required due to my aged mobo only supporting 2gb of ram) to gain zero gameplay content.
So, seriously, no trolling, can ccp give some guarentees that they won't be losing business over QC? If there is no toggle for CQ and no way to actively manage the client footprint and caching of textures and models etc. I'm sensing trouble.
Put simply: If I can no longer run multiple clients I will not be able to justify multiple accounts. If I can not play eve as I am accustomed to doing - I will simply stop playing eve rather than drop accounts and characters.
Now when QC was announced it was inferred that it would be optional. If it no longer is the case that I can run clients with docked characters without running or at least background loading the CQ content, I will run in to resource allocation problems.
I'm p sure I am not alone here and while I am not 'mad' at progress and totally understand technology moves on, I am concerned that people will see things like I do and CCP is going to end up shooting themselves in the foot to some extent. With the average number of accounts among players (according to an old QEN) being 2.5, CCP surely understands the implications of resource heavy expansions?
I view CQ as entirely cosmetic and non-critical to the spaceship game, I make no bones about that, therefore I am not going to be chuffed if my client memory footprint jumps from the 240-400mb it currently occupies to 800-1gb. Thats my view. I accept others have monster rigs and/or don't care about this. However: this will matter to me and I think a great many who are using 'average' puters (<=2gb ram, dual core cpu) and notebooks to play as many of my friends are.
Progress is progress. Hardware has to be updated to keep up. Right now tho, I am not going to rush out to replace my perfectly functional pc to accommodate CQ.

You can turn it off you know. Go to the exit menu and switch off the station environment.

Can you give the client memory usage stats when that toggle is set?

Comments? yeah, one ..it's CQ (Captains Quarters)
Besides that, you can switch it off actually, dunno what happens when this hits TQ though. Hope they make static renders for those who run Eve on the short end of the spectrum of PCs out there. Good luck.

Customers gained by new shinies >> people leaving because they have 2GB max RAM.
Sorry, I think that is most long-term games' design plans.

The issue is really are ccp going to allow players to actively manage the client footprint up to and including NOT loading CQ when it hits tranq. Also given the complexity of ensuring smooth transitions on dock/undock etc. I'm concerned that even toggled it will still cache a lot of crap and still arbitrarily degrade performance.

No..some of you just need to spend a few dollars to upgrade. A decent vid card cost less than $100 US. Seriously.

So CCP released a crap patch which is literally pushing my CPU to 62C when I ran at max 48C prior with max graphics. Fantastic. WAY TOO MUCH CPU OVERHEAD, CCP! YOU IDIOTS!
Also ... what the hell with only a single variant of the Captain Quarters? Minmatar only?! What a complete load of ****. You tout CQ and don't even release a complete thing. Tsk, Tsk.
And if you DISABLE CQ, we get a static background. What. The. ****? It should take us back to ship spinning! I LIKED SPINNING!
No I am not RAGEQUITTING.

What type of system do you have? Mine runs two instances of the game flawlessly and hasn't barely done anything to my system.

My personal prediction is that in 6 month's we see a shake up at CCP. After 4 years of talk this is not impressive. Add's very little to quality of game play and my personal napalm peve atm, the insane " What the hell were you thinking " prices on this junk.
T3 and w space were instant hits. The first ships sold for wild prices and it took nearly 6 months for supply to catch up with demand.
I personaly will be stunned to see anyone other than a dispro moon god or chirriba buying anything in the crap shop.
So if no one uses the expansion, what the hell purpose will it have ? " Build it and they will come " , dont think so ccp. Shot yourselves in the head here imo.

What part of that little room is more taxing than crysis2's immense landscapes, epic textures and post processing? is it the mirror?

I don't suppose it's occurred to anyone that the Vanity purchases are so high priced because CCP is trying to drive the PLEX prices down. After all, I'm fairly sure everyone here was complaining about the potential impact of this earlier.

Crysis 2 is incredibly easy to run. It runs easily twice as fast at max settings as the original did on the same system. Seriously, it was designed for consoles. Or did you not know CryEngine 3 was that efficient...? Saying something can run Crysis 2 at 60fps does not make it an impressive system.

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz, 4 cores running at 80% with two copies of CQ loaded. The game itself does not lag but the last thing to hit my system this hard was Prime95.
