I think the fact that EVE is the most deserving of this award is less because of its quality, and more because of how utterly boring, derivative, and repetitive the rest of the genre is. |

can only answer for myself but I play EVE because of its awesome players not because of anything CCP has done (other than bringing these people together in one place)
IMO many games beat EVE when if it comes to graphics, content, documentation, game mechanics, stability, ... and whatever other metric you may measure CCP's work by.
The only reason EVE feels like a tolerable game is because of all the player-supplied applications, guides, websites, communities, ....
I guess you could argue that a reasonably polished game would never have generated such a level of creativity from its community and that the "learning cliff" is an integral part of keeping the EVE community enjoyable (by driving off certain kinds of players) but that is an accidental success by CCP if any.

What other spaceship game is there? I think Eve was a OK game when I started, but it's on a decline. Can't wait for the summer nerf.
