Actually, CCP can, and SHOULD, do just that. And no, except for a tiny minority of idiots that will quit anyway, they won't lose customers.
If you disagree you should go play a game that has no problems with hackers and other such problems

CCP could also do this, they will listen to a attacked company more.

Miilla, those caps get seriously distracting. Of course they could get more. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if whatever botnet they use to execute this (seriously, I doubt enough bored-to-death scriptkiddies are out there to bring down EVE's login server on their own) hadn't already grown in size and DDoS capacity since yesterday.
Though, it's for naught if CCP reacts the same way they did yesterday. Remove the target, and it becomes a denial of lulz.

What's their end-game here? Why EVE, of all things? I first assumed they were griefing and going for tears, but downtime in EVE is hardly even yesterday's news. Do they not realize we're pretty accustomed to downtime and they're little more than a nuance?  I mean, so EVE is down five hours - yes, it sucks a bit, but it's hardly like we don't have spreadsheets to go over and production lines to optimize...
5 isk says these guys were MLC (Major League Carebears) and got ganked by someone in low-sec!
