I'm just recently back to the game and relearning some skills, for some new play.
I like to 'lone wolf'. While I know this puts me at a disadvantage for many aspects of game play, I enjoy just flying from system to system, doing different things every day, and pretty much keeping to myself. I don't mess with anyone that doesn't mess with me first. Sometimes I mine, other times I'll take a contract for shipping goods, etc.
My question is, do player corps, especially some of the bigger groups, hire out mercenaries for PVP etc? I'd kind of like to be the player that anyone can go do for a 'ahem' delicate job or maybe be a 'hired gun' sort of thing.
Just wondering.

Welcome back.
I too am a lone wolf thought I am more of an industrialist. One thing lacking in Eve are the tools to accommodate "lone" players since the whole game is based on group play.
Usually any character in your profession is swallowed up by a corporation since players do business mainly with corporations and not so much with individuals. I suppose there is a sense of security in that.
So to answer your question: I don't know. Possibly, but unlikely as most corps would probably have their own security/mercenary wing or do business with another corp that specializes in that.
There are no Han Solos or Boba Fetts in EVE. Everyone is a part of a corp and if not, you do get to feeling lonely at times.
My advice is to form your own corp and hire like minded players.

I have a 'lone-wolf' PVP character and yeah it tends to get boring so I play other characters a lot more. It used to be much more fun, but now a days every 3-man gang has a blob around the corner and every lone ship is bait with a cyno.
Wormholes are the best place to go solo, you can catch stragglers with a bit of luck and do hit-and-runs on small PVE gangs if you have the patience and the firepower. You will need an alt with probes however, or a T3.
