This gave me a good chuckle this morning, considering recent events.

Perhaps it's completely hypocritical, but I have no problem with them taking down a fox news site.

Heh, I disagree. It certainly does make people want to start using brick-resistant glass, and somebody has to learn to make it cheap.

Edited by: Khysanth Onyx on 16/06/2011 17:22:53 I turned on the news this morning and they were on FOX for attacking the CIA public site. The commentator was like "it's so unfortunate, they could probably make a lot of money if they turned their efforts towards good"
I was like /o\ mfw don't encourage them. They're trying to build a reputation for themselves to do just that probably.

DDOS is one thing many times it is just a digital protest, and a nuance. (Most of the time.) Hacking into and posting personal info is another. That's just a **** move.
And the reasoning "Well if you don't add enough security you're asking for it." On top of that they then proclaimed what if someone were to do something malicious with it? (kinda like posting it on the internet?)
Really? By that logic because you only locked your car doors, and didn't buy reinforced bullet proof glass you were asking for your car to get stolen? Or because you only have one lock on your door your house should be robbed. Or because you're a women you're asking to get ****d. (I mean why else would you not lock your vagina?)
Wtf is up with this blame the victim crap? So someone please explain to me why digital theft is such an "awesome" thing?

Isn't this exactly why Muslim men force women to wear hijabs? So that the men aren't to blame if they **** some woman who chose not to wear full body coverings?

That's partially true. However the above point is still valid. Muslim reasoning isn't always...well logical or fair or both.

Hint, maybe.
Then again, you can't deny that the security measures the targets of hacking have been employing were, how to put it, laughable. It's not like accidentally drunk walking in a bad neighbourhood, it's like moving bars of gold in an unguarded transparent van on a daily basis through war-torn territories. One's an understandable mistake plus bad luck, the other is complete lack of foresight.
Would this have been a proper hack by somebody that wanted to really do some damage (and profit heavily from it) as opposed to "doing it for the lulz", things would have been far, far worse. You'd think the targets would get slightly less horrible at security because of it. _

The security was indeed lauhgable, but they are still victims and do in not way "deserve it".
Just becuase it is easy to get into your local banks vault (since they manager is a total idiot and build it ontop of a sewer chanel or something) does not mean they deserve to get robbed ;).
Having as bad security is stupid, yes, not denying that, but they are still victims, and lulzsec is not the good guy (or "little raskals") as many make them out to be.
As for "the lulz", perhaps funny to lulzsec, but I doubt it is very funny to the customers that gets thier perosnal data exposed and stolen.
Not only directed at you Akita, but also in general to many of the reponses I see in regards to lulzsec and their actions. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't say they're to be considered good guys Just that the victim should have learned his lesson now, and do a less pathetic job next time somebody will try (because somebody will).

"Deserve", obviously not. Nobody "deserves" to be robbed. "Had it coming" though, sure. There's only so much you can use the "ostrich defense" before getting smashed. _

And how Akita is that related to DDOS'ing games and gaming sites? Sure they can improve their security, spend a small fortune on DDOS protection, are you willing to pay that?

Blaming the victim can only work if it's the victim's fault.
It might have been partly Sony's fault that they got hacked for their security being so poor, but it is absolutely not the fault of the millions of gamers who had their details exposed.
I'm just grateful they're only in it for the Lulz, it'd be a lot worse if these were a bunch of fraudsters or something. In an absurd sort of way, by kicking companies' security into gear, they might even be doing us a favour. ___

I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff so forgive me if I've missed the painfully obvious but how do we know that any other company would have fared any better? I mean has anyone taken a look at CCP's or Sony's security measures and determined that they were inadequate? And yes I'm pushing aside the fact that everyone is calling them "schoolboys" and amateurs because we don't know that any of that is a certainty.

That link sir is pure GENIUS, it recopilates in a simple easy to browse format, most of the world's truths. Also LOL at the world phallacy, I have been trying to teach these, under diff names to a lot of people since I was in my 20's only to have the "backfire" effect on me saying I am "an evil, horrid person whose only joy is destroying other's lives and everything I say is blasphemy".
