Edited by: Commander Ellesmere on 19/06/2011 20:58:33 i dont want dust to have anything to do with eve, its an FPS and i think EVE shouldnt be ruined by introducing it. 13 yearolds play FPS, the average EVE player is 25+. it doesnt fit. just fix lag instead, introduce a couple new ships and make new ship models.

Originally by: FIliphys Industry rumor is that the console is dying. Focus will be on the hand-held and streaming games. Nintendo's latest may be a last gasp.
I highly doubt that the console is dying, instead it is changing. We have to remember that a console is still a computer, it's just highly specialized and is also highly controlled by the manufacturer; it also tends to have very few variations in hardware models and components.
Many people have said in the past that eventually all technologies will converge into one single machine that can do almost anything that you would want it to do. Consoles have been branching out and providing more entertainment services such as TV and music platforms.
So consoles aren't dying; they are simply evolving. And evolution isn't always a smooth path.
Regarding the original post and topic however, I really disagree that Dust 514 will kill Eve Online. There is an entirely new development team behind Dust 514, it is also simply an extension of the game to make it even more like a real science fiction world; something that most players want. Major alliances already work with mercenary groups on a regular basis, so working with a mercenary group that is on the ground really wont be much different. Money still drives everyone, and you are still in the same world.

But we already have that. Its called Computer. and yet we see people moving away from computers and into specialized toys. why do you want 10 things doing 10 things when you can have 1 thing doing 10 things?

It goes deeper then that.
Dust is a MT based game. Dusties will be able to buy (with RL $$$$) upgraded items which will allow an in game advantage. The more they tie Dust into Eve the more the $$$ for advantage will effect the Eve universe. CCP has always maintained the stance that $$$$ for advantage via money stores is not what they want for Eve. Guess what??? They opened the flood gates by tieing an MT based game into the Eve universe.

Originally by: daint666 Yeah i think with all this 3d development going on though, its only so long before a 3d console without glasses is produced and you have your PS4. but yeh i have heard that rumor :)
3d without glasses is more reliant on the screen the system is hooked up to than the system itself. Current consoles COULD conceivably pull off 3d sans glasses (as PCs have been able to do for over a decade now...) as is if they could hold a high enough framerate for 3d.
