With two accounts, I'm usually either Orca/Hulk mining, or missioning/salvaging.
Then there are two other characters per account, which I just have for planet harvesting.

Edited by: Mendolus on 20/06/2011 15:24:21 Main: Caldari, All T2 hulls up to and including battleships mostly for Caldari, some for Gallente, Electronic Warfare, Missile Boats, Shields, Fleet Command 1st Alt: Gallente, Battleships, Capitals 2nd Alt: Amarr T1/T2 Battleships, Logistics, Recons, Cruisers, Exhumers, Jump Freighters, Orca, Rorqual, Manufacturing, Research 3rd Alt: Neutral Freighter, Nearly Maxed Trade Skills, Possible T2 Cruiser/Battlecruiser Minmatar ships (think Vaga, Rapier, Muninn, Sleipnir, Claymore, etc.) 4th Alt: Neutral Catch-All to train whatever I feel like, mostly Caldari for now (Caldari is fun ).
A couple points... the reason most of my characters have sole focus in one racial type (for PvE/PvP) is because of the high skillpoint requirements for both. This is not to say I have no crosstraining on any of them, but most cross training has occured at the frigate level for me, esp. where it concerns T2 hulls.
- Obviously my capital pilot is focusing on a single race at least until he taps out on Capitals V, Racial Carrier V, etc. - My Amarr battleship pilot has sole focus in Amarr boats because of their high skillpoint requirements (but will be cross training to Machariel later). - Same for possible Minmatar pilot.
The last account is just to screw around with and have at least one character where I can just train whatever I want on a whim.
Edit: Point of interest... on at least three of my accounts I can fly both Covert Ops and Transports or just Transports.
I cannot tell you how much the entire scope and environment of the game, and most importantly your approach to it change, when you have the freedom to travel with a covert ops cloaking device, when and if you choose to do so, esp. for hauling moderate amounts of materials.
It makes a huge difference... do not be the guy trying to join a null corps who frequently goes down the low pipe in a T1 hauler only to be popped every week or two by stray opportunists. It's no way to live ingame, at the mercy of any passerby who sees a helpless ship they can one or two shot and takes the opportunity to do so. --------------------------------- It seems quoting the CSM minutes in your signature is inappropriate content! Hurr hurr. |

2 accounts is interesting and becomes more interesting when you're both char's are around 10M SP each.
1 industrial: -go exhumer lvl4, orca, freighter +jump freighter+transport ship -at this point you can make a bunch of billions of this toon
add: -Logistics + recons+T3's and your toon is getting exponentially interesting
About 1 year training, about 20M sp, no need perfect processing skills
with about 36D training plan you can also make it a tech 2 inventor (datacores are very good source of passive revenue)
This toon can almost choose the alliance he wants to get in. Can make you win a bunch of billions while training -ice mining, contact null sec alliances and sell your production at fixed prices often higher than market prices- can build your ships/rigs for peanuts if you mission with your main account.
With your main start by the most boring and creepy stuff but the one you'll never come back, then train ships/drones and have fun.
If you ever get to the point you second account is used only to logg in and create new jobs/trade haul some stuff logg off, then merge the char in to your first account and close the second one.
Profit.

I'm one of the role playing freaks. They are all cast members based on roles, what makes EVE what it is.
By design with 3 characters per account, the way I role played it was each main has 2 students. The Main is responsible for them, thier ships thier skill books, thier livelihood. In return they are dedicated to the main and provide support, are on call.
3 of the 4 mains now have 3 students each. These 3rd students are in fact partial mains and have more to offer but require more. Reality translation, I started an account that doesnt have a main. The 3 chars on that account are all being skilled up in equal SP.
My characters are all intergrated in to the infrastructure of my game. Every character is thought out. We are the Posse.

My main (this character) is my PvP character. He has a very negative sec status and requires a steady income for ammo/ships.
So I made an alt to pull in cash. She was initially intended to be a mission runner, but occasionally I try other things that I become convinced will be "easy money." She has skills in manufacturing, PI, and mining, but each of these things bored me to tears. Turns out I'm not having fun with Eve unless my guns are firing.

I use my alt account to post on the forums because I am to chicken to post with my main. I am afraid my piddly little corporation will get overrun by overeager warmongers. But then again, I may be blowing hot air about that because I'm probably not important enough for someone to waste their isk on for war dec fees.

I'm trying to join that club, but it's really had to relenquish my last two alts. I've had at least four and up to six active accounts for most of my career so the lack of at least one extra scout is frightening. I hate the fact that it's so necessary to get around most places, but i'll learn to deal in time. At least selling all those alts has made me filthy rich again with zero effort.

Well the reason why im looking into it is because with my main guy i want to train only combat skills wich i dont want to pause in order to train other skills like industry and mining stuff.

oh ok lol I'm old school I will have my guy build up slowly. Not in a hurry at this moment EVE is so flipping big, and filled with so much stuff for me to read and do lol. I love games that make me think :)I've never in my life read so much for a video game lol.

Speed and boredom...
For me it depends on what I am doing: When I mine I use two Hulks or Macks and an Orca. (3 toons) When I mission I might run two combat ships and a salvager (3 toons) When I go scanning the Orca is a mobile base while I mine with a hulk and scan with the other. If I find a really good hidden belt I have the mining ships on hand to clear it out. When I trade I have slow boat pilots to move stuff (all toons can fly an industrial or better) while I mission or 0.0 rat.

There are a great many things which are, if not impossible, orders of magnitude more difficult without at least one active alt. This is further amplified when you have lower sp, but even with unlimited sp (my three remaining characters are between 50mil and 80mil sp) having at the very least a scouting, hauling, logisitcal support alt is a huge boon.
Wether or not that boon is worth the extra PLEX or sub payment is your decision to make, but i've long since crossed the threshold where paying more than one sub is a waste of my money given how much time i'm actually in-game (wtb early retirement). |

The stupid limitations on amount of active orders, non trans-regional markets and generally poorly organised trade windows forces me to have different alts for different regions. |

Edited by: Rhivre on 20/06/2011 19:36:15 I use my other accounts for things I don't do with this char, I specialise each char, as the "every char can do everything eventually" doesn't really appeal to me.
I also have other accounts because in general, I am an altaholic, every MMO I have played I have multiple accounts usually full of characters.

I used one alt as a swiss army knife; doing non-combat stuff like scanning, hacking, etc but now is slowly morphing into a mission/incursion runner so don't have to keep clone jumping between high-sec and null-sec and also not be KoS in Amarr space like Anddeh is. Second alt is a brand new(ish) one that's going to be a science/indutry dude, starting with hoovering loot for other alt. --- There are two sides to the EVE community; those that scream for change and those that scream against it. Often they are the same person. |
