Yeah, but when it¦s that clogged up no amount of pristine air will help.
Also @OP watch out with the vacuum cleaner near electronics. It could easily generate static charges, which is deadly for such a packed hardware.
Best get yourself one of these compressed air cans and read up on cleaning guides on Youtube for your specific notebook.
Seems Toshiba were clever enough to design it so that you have go through the whole laptop, remove HDD, motherboard etc to get at the fan and cooling system, which I don't think I could trust myself to do myself.

Ugh. That¦s why I hate laptops.
Oh well, I¦ll still try the can. That long snorkle is there for a reason. Maybe it wont be that drastic as in that (bit amateurish) vid.

All the above solutions are correct. But, i had a very similar problem resently. When running EVE (two clients) core temperature was climbing high. I did everything, checked heatsinks, cleaned inside the tower, checked video card... nothing happened. The problem remained.
Finally i found out what was causing it. I had installed a programme long time ago, that over time, used more and more CPU even when computer was idle. When the computer was also simultanusly running two eve clients the stress was too high, and the heat was too much for the fan. I removed the programm, and everything went back to normal.
I found about the "bad" programm using a utility called "process explorer". It's free. If you have done everything else, you might want to try this too.

overheating of laptop is a common issue the CPU/GPU is designed to run much faster with much better cooling
one thing you can do is remove the plating under the laptop if they are just top covers this will create more airflow also make sure the laptop is elevated and the sides are clear ( side grills get cloged up )
use a air-spraycan and clean troughly all the dust . you might like to lookup termal pastes aswell
other than than not much can be done

Update your Nvidia drivers.
There was a problem with overheating in a driver set a while ago.

Update drivers. Close programs running in the background you don't need.
Take off back cover, clear out dust. Make sure all fans are working properly and speeding up under load. Check if heatsink is properly seated, I've seen this problem plenty of times both on desktops and laptops. If you're brave take off the heatsink and reapply thermal paste. Usually when they do it at the factory they add way too much.
Get a laptop cooler. Better yet, build a desktop!

Thanks,
I should add it's a Toshiba satellite with Intel core i7, windows 7, and Geforce GT 330M 4GB of RAM.
hmm you can down-clock your CPU .. its overkill anyway. As i get it its an notebook so you probably wont be able to put some mean CPU cooler in
But there are some products like cooling mats for notebooks you can try that too.
The people with big towers / towers can try Mungen 2 cpu cooler works great.

has solved many overheating problems in the past, altho you get stuck to either 30 or 60 fps. ---

Mine was doing the same thing. I dropped graphics to 16 bit color. Not only did the Graphics card stop overheating, the client went from 800 MB per to 200 MB per. |

Edited by: Mizar Alcor on 21/06/2011 20:56:38 Buddy of mine was having issues like this with a few different games on his laptop, I suggested trying a laptop cooling system that you set your laptop on, they have extra fans and such. He noticed an improvement, some games ran better and stopped crashing. Might want to take the laptop with you to scope out fan positioning on the base, and yes if it hasnt been cleaned, find a way to do it. I had to take apart my graphics card recently cause its fan started cranking up, and to get into it I had to take the heatsink off the gpu, but it saved my card as the heatsink air slits were totally clogged.
Try YouTube and see if someone has disassembled your type of Laptop before, can be helpful!

Gaming on a laptop is silly.
The problem is likely that your laptop cannot cool itself properly. Make sure none of the fans are obstructed. The more intensive 3D graphics cause your video processor to work harder and create more heat. The game is not the problem if heat is the issue.

Get your laptop OFF your bed, couch, pillow on your lap, or any other surface that isn't flat. Consider getting THIS or a similar accessory. Bunnyy |

I get the same problem and mines not a laptop. What you people are failing to grasp is that this is the only time this happens, this is eve, not Crysis 2, the requirements are a joke. It is certainly to do with CQ itself. I assume a patch will surface eventually. also win 7, core 2, gts250 card.
