I was just wondering a few things about some of these alliances with sovereignty out there. I am very new to Eve so sorry if some of these questions seem a bit stupid to pros out there.
1. Is the Atlas alliance related to CCP Atlas (I am presuming he is on the dev team) at all? 2. Does the CCP Alliance belong to CCP or was that just how it was named by players? 3. Is the Test Alliance actually a test alliance or again was the name just picked for fun?
I've read up what I can about these topics, these are the questions I could not find answers to. Please keep flaming on how I should know all about Eve alliances/be more pro at Google searches to a minimum, thanks!

The first two answers I can't give you because well, I dont know (never even heard of CCP Alliance and im 4 years old)
Test alliance while they might have some CCP guys in their ranks (i dont know for sure), they are definately NOT a testing alliance and shouldn't be treated as such.

Take a look at current sov map of null.
1. Atlas has nothing to do with CCP. 2. CCP alliance is for CCP to test alliance systems and other misc stuff. It was not named by players. 3. Test Alliance Please Ignore is an actual player alliance, a pretty big one also.
// Hope it was helpful.

Haha, ok... The Atlas alliance is a player run alliance with nothing to do with CCP Atlas, as far as I am aware. They are a reincarnation of the old Atlas alliance. CCP Engineering Alliance IS actually the CCP devs for testing and such. Test alliance is a player run alliance, aka massive swarm of mostly incompetant pilots

Thanks guys I appreciate the really helpful explanations. One more thing - if the CCP Engineering Alliance is CCP's testing alliance, can players actually attack it, contest its sovereignty, etc?

No as the CCP Engineering Alliance is based in jove space. Jove space is inaccessable to the players. Go have a look at evemaps.dotlan.net if you want to see jove space.

Any alliance that has the word, CCP, in it is Dev's alliance. No players may attack it.

If members of the CCP alliance are actually on Tranquility (which they probably would not, because they have the test server to test stuff) they are in Jove space. That's the part on the top right of the sovereignty map, which is not occupied by players - because it is unreachable.

Not entirely true; you are free to shoot at CCP if they actully appear on grid. Of course, most of the time they are invisible or in invincible ships. However there have been several cases of some CCP dying in a fire when they poked their noses where they shouldn't.
The CCP Alliance (and the C C P Engineering corp) are the devs, Atlas(dot) and TEST have nothing to do with them, they are normal player alliances. ---
