I hear occasional talk about EVE trying to go FTP. And I see all these micro transaction addition which definitely suggest FTP.
But EVEs mechanics dont make much sense with FTP. There are 3 basic reasons.
1 Much of EVE is so easy that you can do it better with 3-5 accounts than you can do with one account.
PVP rapidly becomes more and more tricky as you raise the number of characters you use at once.
But mining and ratting and missions all go better with 3 accounts than with 1 and dont require any special computer gaming dexterity.
It doesnt make much since to make the game FTP if leads to a lot more server load and alts which dont add revenue for CCP.
2 Cyno jumping.
The absurd cyno situation means that almost every high end player will probably have 2 or 3 specialized cyno accounts many of these accounts flying T3cruisers covert opps battleships eventually.
3 Skill training.
Because EVEs character advancement is based on time not playing most players will immediately start a ridiculous number of alt accounts making specialized characters for future needs and for selling to new players.
To make this workable FTP game would require making all PVE harder/interactive, drastically changing cyno and a reword of of the brutal reowrking of the skill system.
I really dont see it happening.

I was thinking of FTP. Yes, that would require some serious reworking.

Of course, not worth answering. It can never go free to play as the whole game would not work any more.
Also, Vanity MT do not equal Free to play.
Just equal wow thinking which is just as bad.
Take comfort in knowing that its probably some pimply faced twit, or 40 year old virgin, who gleens everytime mommy offfers to take them to needle point lessons |
