Edited by: me me2 on 21/06/2011 14:26:56 If I have a router (Netgear N150) that uses a DSL connection to get internet, and all private assets behind the NAT.
I now want to dump the DSL and use a WiFi that I have an account on.
How can I use my existing router for this, basically changing from DSL to external WiFI while keeping my private network private.
Do I need 2 routers or can I do it with 1?
PPPoE Relay on one router (Bridge mode) and normal on the other and connect the internal router to the Bridged?
Just guessing. I need an EASY way and wont involve buying new hardware if possible.

I see WifiRanger products have this capability, but they only seem to be sold in the US.
Anybody know either a differnet brand with the capability of using WiFi as an internet source (along with DSL - and optionally GSM/3G).
Or if netgear can do this?

Most DSL routers will not be compatible with a coaxial style wifi. If you are using a city provided wifi, generally they will provide you with a wireless modem, and if you want to convert that to home wireless you would use a standard coaxial wireless modem. If you are getting wireless from your neighbors home, you need a non-dsl wireless router. ( I am assuming your dsl router is also your dsl modem)

Yes you can use other wi-fi routers in your area by bridging with dd-wrt firmware. http://www.dd-wrt.com

I would prefer to use the existing firmware from the manufacturer.
It is not my routers I am trying to configure. If it needs new routers, fine, but wifi ranger isnt sold much outside the US , if at all.
Not on amazon europe and not on expansys europe.
Also I might add, the Wifi as the interneet source will need authentication (web page sign on usually but if there is a standard protocol for it, then it can also send the authentication i presume.
I read that bridging disables the NAT router funcationality, hence the need for 2 routers, one to bridge, and one to keep my assetrs secure behind the internal router.
Esentially creating a DMZ between the 2 routers.
A one box solution would be ideal if I have to get a new router, but still must be able to keep the internal network private behind the NAT.
