Have I missed something here ??
We have ISK so why another currency and please don't say it's CCP trying to make more money out of us as you can buy plex with ISK.

its a way for them to keep a more or less realistic pricing on stuff.
a plex is around 400m isk. so they would need to enlist a t-shirt for like 150m isk or something. for that reason they introduce the second currency. trade 400m isk into.. say 1000 aurum, now they can enlist a t-shirt for 300 aurum. it still has the price of a spaceship but its not that apparant. |

If they just charged PLEX for clothes and so on, you'd basically end up paying ú15 or so even if you wanted to buy a shirt, or 400m ISK. With Aurum, you can charge a more reasonable price because Aurum gives you a PLEX broken down into manageable parts.

The same reason every other game that has microtransactions has a separate currency for it: to ensure that at some point actual money was paid that can be directly linked to the item.
If you could buy the items directly from CCP for ISK, it'd just be a money sink, and you'd be able to pay for it with ISK that you got mining, ratting etc, and the 'real cash contribution' would be undocumentable.
With Aurum, even if you buy it on the market for ISK, at some point, someone traded in a PLEX for the Aurum to buy it. And in order to create the PLEX, at some point someone paid real cash for it. So they can go to the accountants and say 'we made X amount of money selling items this month'.
Even if you personally don't give CCP any cash for it, someone else did, and you indirectly gave them ISK in exchange for the real cash they gave CCP.

I'm not sure why people keep asking this.
The same reason you need pennies, nickels and quarters. For the stuff you buy that costs less then a dollar.
Can you really see yourself paying 300+ million ISK (1 plex) for a shirt or clothes in the new store? No. Before this new "currency" the smallest denomination was one plex. (about 350million ISK) Adding a new domination that can be broken down from a plex seems obvious.so you can buy things that don't quite cost a plex.
Now.. I am NOT in favor of this Micro-transaction thing they are adding in to the game.. not one single bit... but I can understand why and how it's being done.

Because CCP needs a new way for us to spend our hard earned cash on their virtual world (like those dummies spending cash on Facebook's Farmville thingy)

It's a second plex sink. There's probably a pretty consistent number of plexes used to keep accounts running every month, this increases that number. Higher plex prices encourage people to buy more from CCP which means better profits.
It's also a subtle way for them to introduce micro transactions along with space barbie. They somewhat avoid controversy by also allowing players to buy and sell the items between themselves using ISK, but remember all those items originated from a broken plex. >> profit!
