Have a Caldari tower that i wanted to use for a WH POS. I know the whole thing about the missle turrets not firing when the tower goes into reinforce but considering that generally speaking the guns/webs/scrams/ECM are incaped on a pos take down anyways. So my loadout is such
20 torp launchers 130k range 4 standard webs 2 faction webs 95% speed reduction 4 warp disruptors 40 ECM 2 shield hardeners
Note: Only about 85-90% of the modules are onlined at any one time
To me it seems like a pretty solid build for something designed to resist battleship fleets but i'm curious for input. Also include that we do have 1 pos gunner

Edited by: Vastek Non on 22/06/2011 08:58:39 You need to ditch the torps and get guns, any guns are better, and you need more than 1 POS gunner.
Rest should be ok though you could ditch the 4 standard webs in place of more guns. Without direct control by POS gunners they will be useless, and if you have POS gunners they should only need 1 or 2 (conentrate on a couple of enemies at a time max)
Edit: If you don't understand why Torps are bad you shouldn't be going into a wormhole yet. Gaps in your knowledge will kill you quickly.

So torps are bad because of time to flight time/sig radius vers smaller ships my thought was with the increased speed the tower gives torps and the fact that I will be using faction webs or multiple standard webs would mean that even a dram would have a tough time speed tanking torps. I will be the first to admin that my torp exp only revolves around sb so maybe I'm missing something here but i am open to input. |

Ok, well, when your shields get low enough on the POS and all CPU shuts down, guess what? Your enemies will then be able to point and laugh at your now inactive torpedo launchers.. all 20 of them.
Guns do not use CPU, and therefore will keep operating. Its really that simple.
Do not EVER use missiles on POS, they suck immensely.

People will even laugh at 20 torp launchers if they are online. Missiles on a POS are a sign of a clueless owner.

So i realizes that generally the common thought is that torps are bad because they shut down when the tower goes into reinforce but does anybody actually have first hand experience on taking down a torp laden tower without dreads.. with a similar setup?

POS discussion is normally done in the Science & Industry forum, where you will even find a fantastic thread in the forum sticky on how to fit a POS.
Missiles suck because: look at the damage multiplier and rate of fire on a missile battery, then look at any turret battery. A single battleship can easily tank all the missiles you can fit on a large POS. A long time ago missiles were godly overpowered... so they were nerfed into oblivion, and POS structures were never updated after the nerf to compensate.
Use lasers on a laser bonused tower, and projectiles on everything else. Ignore hybrids (blasters have useless range on any POS bigger than a small, and railguns have really horrible tracking, lower damage, and less range than projectiles).
Caldari towers are not meant to be setup as deathstars, but they make good EWAR-stars (only in hisec), or resist-stars. They don't need guns until they are reinforced, or if there are gunners online.
