That's pretty common. Happens with Google Adsense ads as well. EvE: Everyone vs Everyone

Meh, Facebook's stock just jumped off a cliff... now I suspect it got it's tie hooked on a thick branch and is hanging itself "A genius throws a Molotov cocktail and soon realizes that he's going to die choking in a maze of smoke and flame. A hero drinks a Molotov cocktail and soon realizes that if he does a split in midair, he can hit twice as many zombies per kick. Drunk hero wins again, wusses." ~Cracked.com |

I get that with google because it's a search engine and it's relating to things you may like but if i'm going to get linked to something in facebook i'd rather it be legit |

CCP really can't do anything about it.
They can politely ask facebook not to link RMT sites, but those sites probably paid cash to be added to a pool that, when your preferences from pulled information dictate, makes it come up as an ad. I doubt Facebook is going to be willing to take it down, and the RMT sites themselves are in countries where what they do is perfectly legal. It sucks, but that's life. |

Facebook's ads work the same way Google's Adsense ads do. Simplistically, You pay money to put up an ad that's linked to certain keywords. When someone associated with those keywords opens a page, your ads get delivered to that person. EvE: Everyone vs Everyone

True, are facebook allowed to link to sites that sell intellectual property that isn't owned by the site owners though? Are facebook not facilitating in RMT? |

Unfortunately, facebook is allowed, just as google is allowed to link **** sites. To deny them this would be to violate net neutrality, which has much more serious repercussions. Its the internet, gotta take the good with the bad. |

Welcome to targeted advertising, facebook as a company have a lot of information on each and every person that has an account, the whole purpose of the site is to monetise that information and if you read the T&Cs they say as much. It's always a wise idea to lock your account down anyway, google trawls facebook all the time and makes it really easy to find stuff out about pretty much anyone who's left their facebook account with default settings.
Adblock works for some of them but the best solution I've found is the SocialFixer browser extension CCP can't patch stupid. |

I know it's weird, but for some reason they've set up ad links as browser and client based in some areas. Not sure about facebook, but it basically depends on who they use to pitch ads and how that's done.
I never read enough to know the specifics, but presumably Google has something to do with it as that was what was indicated in what I did read. What it does do is circumvent the website administration by providing the ads based on the viewer and not the website administrations un-blacklisted ads.
Unfortunately, I don't think there is any way for the browser to prevent these ads from appearing now aside from an adblocker, and I checked Google Adsense to see if it could be done that way but found nothing to indicate I could do more than blacklist ads from my own nonexistent pages.
Obviously Adsense is intended for those using it to create revenue, but I don't know if Google circumvent there own product or someone else does. I do know, (iirc), that what I read indicated Google is somehow responsible for the ads we see in our browser based on our use of the internet. This is why we see targeted ads even when we are visiting sites where they would be unlikely to be,more so than other ads.
I get a lot of EVE ads, and I might be seeing some SWtOR ads soon. I do know that I started seeing RMT ads back around the time I heard about this on EVE related and compliant sites. I contacted the Admins in all cases and was told they had been removed or shouldn't be there due to Blacklisting, but found they still showed up, and then I ran into that little article.
It wasn't very clear obviously, but that was what I gathered based on what I'd read. I have deleted and cleared my signature 7 times and it still won't go away. |

You can only block stuff you're aware of.... but then it's already too late in most cases.
