There are several forums regarding a final farewell for Sean Smith, fellow gamer and diplo in the EvE online community. He gave his life for his country doing what he loved and brought that talent into the EvE community.
If you would like to show tribute and respects, please join us online Saturday Sept 15th 2012 in major market hubs Amarr and Jita.
There we will be honoring his memory by a fiery display on the memorial statues at the hubs.
We need your help to spread the message as well, let everyone you know to pass the word. |

Goonswarm will be doing it's own thing, the "If it's not purple shoot it" memorial fleet, where we plan on remembering Vilerat as he lived. By having his diplomatic team explain why we murdered people ostentatiously friendly to us. I can't speak officially for the swarm but we encourage everyone else in the 0.0 community to join us in this event by doing the following:
1. Form a fleet. 2. Go kill anything that's not in that fleet. 3. Tell Vile Rat.
Normally outsiders don't follow the same traditions we do, but we'll share this one. It's fun. And frankly all of us that knew him could use a little catharsis right about now. |

Its a sad moment for eve, and a happy one for the people who know the US and Russia are there just to sell weapons through the hands of politicians like this example of the best mankind can raise and feed caviar and African miners.
I would like/hope to think, this could have bin in fact a good man who really warrants grieving over. |

CCP should erect a permanent in game monument, maybe in one of goonswarm's systems. That would be a cool way to be remembered. I Endorse this Product and/or Service Source Recorder-esque tool for EVE |

Maybe have some sort of obituary monument erected in Jita that lists deceased EVE players that anyone can read. |

It's not so much that he was an average Eve player, he literally, shaped how politics work in EVE online. He has such influence, that EVERY diplomat, basically, wants to be the next Vile Rat. Vile Rat was such a person, that, as explained before, you did not need to explain WHO he was, everyone who is anyone, knows even in passing, who Vile Rat was. This is akin to knowing who Chribba is, or Mittani, Or Seleene. EVERYONE has heard of Chribba. Almost EVERYONE has heard of Mittani, and more than a few people know who Seleene is. A lot of older players, has at least heard the name "Vile Rat". However, Vile Rat was so instrumental, that he quite literally shaped EVE Online as you know it. The powerblocs, the 0.0 corporations and alliances, EVERYTHING that comes out of 0's, Including but not limited to Tech, Minerals, Faction and Deadspace mods, Faction ships (Macharials, daredevils). come from a stable source that is held by alliances that are blue to other alliances, all thanks to Vile Rat.
so in conclussion, it's not the death of a random EVE player. This is Vile Rat we are talking about, and though I haven't had the pleasure of working with him in game, or knowing him in real life, his influence for EVE online is without question. |

I never had the pleasure of knowing him, but I appreciate all that he brought and changed to EVE. He was a revolutionary, an agent of change. We should all strive to better this game, even if only by a fraction of what he did. Frogblast the Vent Core! You're the ones wanting to erect in game monuments to the guy. Hell why don't you start a church while you're at it, seems like some folks worship the guy as it is. "Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must undergo the fatigues of supporting it." - Thomas Paine |

As I stated, I did not know him in game or in real life, but I at least give credit where credit is due, and I think Vile Rat has deserved said credit for his work, whether or not you approve of his allegiances, or not. |

Paul Oliver, you really are a buzzkill.
The whole "If everyone doesn't get a konument, then one person shouldn't" crap is the same mentality of every kid getting a trophy for participating in soccer even if they got slaughtered every game of the season. kind of missing the point guys, we are not putting up monuments... this is a tribute similar to a burn jita but without the fuss. These events were inspired by what VR put forward in the game. CCP won't put up special things for one person, no matter who he is. Just saying... this is the reality of the issue.

Well simply because it would get your knickers in a bind, I hope CCP puts a station sized glowing neon green bust of his avatar right outside Jita 4-4.
I wonder if I send a petition to CCP if they would get something like this going. If you run into more than 2 a**holes in a day, you should probably look in the mirror. |

Hey Fokes,
This thread was starting to become a nice little flame war.
Enough with it, the comments had nothing to do with the topic. I cleaned it up removed what I thought was appropriate to remove. Don't punish the OP by trashing a perfectly good thread.
If you don't approve of a post report it and we will look at it instead of just causing drama. ISD Athechu Commander ISD STAR (Support Training and Resources) EVE New Citizens Q&A Resources |

And now that I have done so I have no further reason to post on this matter. "Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must undergo the fatigues of supporting it." - Thomas Paine |

Then by your logic, what about the 'special occasion' prizes ?
In other words, where is my Opus Luxury Yacht ? And my Veldnaught ??
By your logic also in real life, nobody could be buried or memorialized until everybody can be buried and memorialized.
Let's not choose favorites now....it's not FAIR...................

I'm assuming at some point or another he got podded, which means we could have an actual spaceburial for him. |
