I am running a 3 year old I-Mac which has been working great until Incarna. No when I attempt to log in I am told my card is outdated and gives me not other option but to quit. Is this going to be our fate? Do I need to cancel my subscription.

Same here, 3 yr old iMac. I can't just pop out and buy a new computer every 3 years or so. I am weighing my options, but one of them is to put my sub on hold until I can get a new computer, but my guess is that's end of year at the earliest.

If I've understood the comments on this the X1600 card IS actually supported, but the drivers from Apple/ATI dont support SM3.
So, in theory, you could get it working in BootCamp. Maybe. I've not tried it. But its worth a shot if its a choice between some time messing with bootcamp and windows or canceling your subs

I tried Bootcamp with old MPB (model2.2, Ati x1600, 128MB) and IT WORKS! Hope we'll get some fix for OSX soon.

Is it working on boot camp with Windows 7 or XP. I see the drivers from radeon on the x1600 say boot camp xp, but want to get the most up to date OS if it works on both.
really wish CCP would have some diligence with their QA on the MAC side. All they did was see that the x1600 was supported, only its just supported on the Windows side, not the MAC.

It would be good to have ccp atleast find away around this, if they tested it and said
"ok guys, i know it's ****, BUT if you have the 1600 cards, purchase xp/7 use bootcamp and update drivers and you will be able to run eve"
People would take the ú50 hit for the os over a ú1000+ hit at buying a new mac.

I guess I'm going to take the fraking hit for a new machine for a game. I needed to do it sooner or later anyway I guess.
As I figure it, I can drop $200-ish for Vista or 7 and then it won't work with my x1600 card and I'm on to a new machine. Or, I can just add the $200 to the cost of the mac I want. It sucks and really most of the need of a new machine is EVE derived. (It's probably a sad comment on my priorities, as well.)
Or I bail on EVE. I guess that's the big decision over the next few days. From the looks of it, I'm not alone in facing this decision. I wonder in CCP calculated how much money they would lose vs. cost of making it work on the Mac side of things. Probably. That thought doesn't make me lean towards a new machine.

I got the message that I was playing on an outdated graphic card but it asked me if I wanted to lower the graphic settings and allowed me to play. Now I've disabled the CQ and am able to play with the graphics set to high again.

Yeah... I was a little disappointed. I have a 4 year old MacBook Pro (with a X1600) and a newer iMac. I run multiple accounts for mining ops and its nice to have the laptop for running the Orca, but when I re-downloaded the client because Mac users got screwed yet again, EVE told me my graphics card for my Macbook was out of date. I read a forum post from CCP a while back that said the X1600 cards are SM3 compatible, but apparently that was incorrect. Don't drink and drive... Get high and fly! |

I just tried to launch again and am still getting the same message that my card is outdated. I'm in the same boat trying to decide if I should purchase Windows XP or 7 or just get a new computer. I have only been playing for 3 months, although I would have never started this game if I knew upfront with the new release I would no longer be able to play. I feel as if I have been scammed! Could someone tell me if I do the bootcamp will I be able to play? I have an Imac 2.16 GHz, 2GB Mem. with the Radeon X1600 256MB card in it. If not, I guess I will be able to find something else to do from around 8PM til 12AM!

We always could go back to WoW :) Blizzard seems to do a much better job at catering to Mac Users.

Same here, 17" iMac 2GHz Core 2 Duo with Radeon X1600.
No option to not render station interiors, just "Your video card doesn't support SM3.0".
No more EVE for me. Creation is so precious, and greed so destructive - http://v.gd/tm28yT |

Well it seems like my old 2006 iMac with the X1600 isn't going to run EVE anymore. EVE tells me it's out of date. So....I spent the afternoon enlarging my Bootcamp partition and installing EVE on that partition with Windows XP as the OS. EVE eventually downloaded on XP and I was able to run it. The downside is that whilst 'in station' the frame rate is terribly slow to the point of being unusable. Outside of station then it seems like it's workable.
If you can Bootcamp EVE then try it - for me it worked - at least it'll buy me some time to either put together a cheap custom PC or save up some dough to go the full monty and get myself a new 27inch iMac.

I'm running a 2 year old mac mini, and the lag in station (even with the settings set to minimums) was just painful. I shut off in station environment (could care less about it to be honest, EVE is about SPACESHIPS not vanity items) and put graphics settings back to where they were & all is well.

I Uninstalled My Client! I redownloaded the 5GB Full Client! I skipped Verification! i installed EVE! I downloaded and installed the Fixfontpatch! I opened the Client and it auto-updated the final patch! I went into Graphical Settings! I disabled CQ, I diasbled HDR, I disabled Depth Effects! i then optimizied graphics for Performance! it set all the settings to LOW! I logged in and i worked! However the one flaw is I can't see my Items in my ITEMS TAB! I tried Clearing All Chaces! Still Can't See my Items! It says i have X number of Items but there are no Icons!
I Hope This Helps People!

I'm running an 'old' MacBook Pro from mid to late 2007 with an x1600 256 as the GPU. Like other folks with the x1600, CCP's MT Menagerie patch caused EvE to become unplayable. The windows client running under an XP SP3 Bootcamp install will work on the same hardware. I've already started packing away assets with it for the long slumber ahead.

Ditto, what a mess, ATI based Macbook Pro and 20" iMac both down for the count with Incarna along with my 3 year old Win 7 laptop. My wife's 5 Year old PC with an nVidia card works ok though. I guess the good news is I can pick up old PCs cheaply that will run Incarna but I'm collecting a pile of newer Macs that can't ... something's not at all right here.

Apple does not deliver drivers for SM3 on X1600 Cards, so the cards itself can just run fine sm3, just not on osx. Why a forum in the year 2011 still has no automatic double post merge which can be done even with javascript mostly is beyond my understanding. |

There are good reasons to upgrade a mac, eve ain¦t one of them. "Cheap" custom pc should be the better solution if you do not need the mac update for anything else anytime soon.
