I kinda feel like this entire update is an nVidia scam to make us buy new hardware
The thread author is pompous & arrogant. I'm running completely modern hardware (quad-core i7 w/ hyperthreading, Raedon 6870). As others have said, that lineup can play Crysis and Crysis 2 with everything maxed, no problems.
You cannot sit there and tell me the effects are more demanding than Crysis. The station environment is good, but let's be honest, not THAT good. Yet I'm getting terribad performance in-station unless I kill all my settings.
I actually made a suggestion thread with a solution about this: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1534051 |

You're an arrogant fool.
Congrats on your e-peen triple monitor setup, nobody cares (for Eve? really? lol) Now try & realize that said laptops worked fine before this worthless, cosmetic-only update.
Those users now have a forced downgrade, since turning off the new station rubbish presents a static screen. No ship, no nothing, just a worthless JPEG.
Aka, for people without 10 square feet of desk and piles of money to frivolously waste... An ~800 MB download to get a WORSE user interface. Excellent.

You are aware you can access the video settings from the login?
I am, indeed. But if you have Yesterday's Working Card you can't get as far as the log in.
You sound like someone who's already tried everything, but... Did you try "eve.exe (Safe Mode)" ?

Originally by: Myfanwy Heimdal Sadly I have. A dialog box pops up entitled "Outdated graphics card detected" with the main message of the dialog box being "Shader Model 3 (SM3) support is needed to run this game. Click OK to close the game client."
Oh. I thought the transition process for SM3 was already over. My understanding is that now you hard-core absolutely-need SM3 to run at all.
I could be wrong.
