Because really, how can a single laggy room take over 6 months? It takes a single modeler under a week to create the minmatar room, maybe 3 days texturing and a few days lighting to set it up. Then lets say character animations when mocapped and intergrated takes over a week for a single person. Interfaces I imagine are tricky but a team of two could do it under a week. Throw on bug checking and the hanger and youve got another couple of weeks. That doesnt add up to years, and thats a team of 5 people. Last i heard there's 700 at CCP.
Even the monacle is a few hours work at best. Throw it around in MAYA, chuck it in zbrush (texture it there too) and what, that's 3-4 hours work. And they're selling For $68 a pop.
CCP- Guys really, its embarrassing. Either you don't have a content creation team, or they need to find new jobs. I can understand if you have a small EVE team and i'd love to hear the number of people involved but from an outsiders perspective its downright shoddy workmanship.

Games are just models and textures? No engine? Wow, you're right, this is unacceptable!

although it's not perfect, you really do not know what you are talking about, it does require alot of intergration, not to mention the avatars were not able to do this and the whole avatar tech was overhauled, and about a billion other things i can't be bothered to type!

Throw it around in Maya! chuck it in Zbrush. Few hours work! You really can't have done much 3d modelling/texturing because your time estimates are way off. I might have my gripes with some of the stuff the design team have done. But getting on here and giving the impression that the mechanics of what they do is easy is so far off base it's unreal.
Waiting for the stock reply....I have done loads of this stuff and am an expert, gets ready with drum roll.

Edited by: Captain Futur3 on 22/06/2011 15:17:36 OP has a valid point, even when its way harder than he thinks. Just compare other game studios. They create whole worlds with thousands of Objects, creatures and all fully animated. Then there are stories in the games, real AIs (eve doesnt even has a pathfinding AI), GREAT soundseffects and stuff like that.
These games are normally developed in 2-3 years with developer studios smaller than CCP. Just compare 4 Eve Addons and sum the content up and you will see that it wouldnt fit the content of a full game.. not even half of a common game i bet (sure i speak about AAA games).

For all intents and purposes this should have been a patch. Not a major update.

CF I have no problems giving CCP grief over their design. I have played games and built stuff in those games of better quality than a lot of stuff CCP dishes up, and no I'm not bragging as I'm not an expert either, which makes CCP look even worse to my mind. But to make content creation sound easy misses the point by a wide margin.
One of those other worlds I inhabited for years before coming to eve, not wow btw, and I agree what CCP gives can't compare. Think of one world where there 50/60 characters per room all with hair and clothes effects. With shadow, water reflections, cloud formations and other effects thrown in, live streaming TV and music. And the fact that CCP can't manage one or two rooms (hanger) without causing so much grief is a valid point, just not in the terms the OP put it.
