The first thing I noticed when I docked for the first time was how absolutely crap the current UI looks when overlaid on top of the captains quarters. When you dock, the current UI should be left out in the cold darkness of space where it belongs and a brand new and immersive UI should be available that is completely separate from the current space UI.
Imagine that you are chilling out in your quarters as normal and you get the itch to purchase a new ship. You hit a hotkey and you avatar presses a button on this strange looking device heÆs been carrying around with him all day in the palm of his hand. The camera zooms into a first person perspective and then suddenly, a holographic menu is projected out from this magic device to hang right before your very eyes (or monocles), taking up almost the whole screen! It has all the current functionality that the station services menu and the neocom used to have so you click the market button and there it is, the market for your current region right at your fingertips! You search for that dream ship youÆve always wanted and decide to check your wallet to see if you can afford it. You press the wallet icon and BAM! Your wallet appears in a new tab of its own. It looks like all that mission running has paid off so you tab back to the market and make your purchase.
CCP sold incarna to us as a new and immersive way to interact with the universe of New Eden and they have completely failed to immerse us due to the current UI. This new implementation (which I definitely didnÆt steal from dead space) would retain all of the current functionality we currently have but just present it in a much more immersive fashion.
The only problem I can see is that there is no real way to incorporate the chat window into this as thatÆs something that needs to be viewable all the time. It would be better if a new chat window was developed for when you are docked though so that you donÆt mess up you in space UI arrangement when you want to move it to a more convenient position!

This is more along the lines of "unintended consequences". Until incarna is in production use there are a variety of ideas and tweaks that simply won't occur to the small population (comprised of Dev's and Beta Testers).
For myself, I just dislike how movement is handle. Feels awkward to me. Definitely counterintuitive to fps wasd.
Also, having my avatar just standing at the gantry just seems... atmosphere breaking. Perhaps the avatar would initially be in a seat (which jacks him into a pod). By choice I could stand up and then walk to my quarters. Or, alternately, simply have the screen load up with the avatar seated at the couch/console.
But, on topic, I think your thread is better served in the Ideas forum.

You're right, it probably would be better in the ideas forums. Perhaps a friendly mod can move it there for me?

This is correct however if Incarna is based upon Carbon which is what Dust will be using.... fps is gonna suck with counter intuitive controls. Besides, my right hand/arm is handicapped. Having to hold down a button and move the mouse at the same time only aggravates my condition. Not that handicap is any consideration of internet jeniuses or Dev's at CCP but why go against proven conventional wisdom just for the sake of going against it? It is not like the control scheme is revolutionary.

Yeah, if you get out of POD, space UI should be unavailable. Just need an option not to get out of pod every time you dock first.
At least in teaser "being out of network" was the whole point of getting out of the pod, so it makes no sense of having UI around in station. Gguess CCP scrapped that one too, and only reason they came up with instead was making it mandatory for everyone. |

I completely support this, under a few conditions.
> Make it completely optional, otherwise EVE threadnaughts will destroy the universe and make God cry.
> Assure that the new "immersive UI", i.e. video screens and 'buttons' are easy to navigate, labeled, and recognizable. A cluster**** of unlabeled video screens is not the answer.
