There is not way for me to log onto Eve now with this upgrade? I have a GF FX 5200. This card does not support SM3... There is no work around and why do this kind of upgrade that is not backwards compatible or an option to oped out?

You could try "faking" SM3 compatibility with 3D-Analyze but I am not sure it would work if you don't disable CQ ASAP (not sure it would work, period). It USED to work for "faking" SM2 though, so might be worth a try. _

Won't work. Latest update for 3D-analyze was in 2002; so sadly no sm3 support.

That's because it isn't a sarcastic answer. Save up a bit, you can get a gaming rig capable of running most new games on high at about 500-550usd.
Other than that, it's either no eve or hope that faking SM3 will work.

And by the time some of us with real life expenses that leave us with at most 40-50 a month do will not return to eve. Not for killing shader 2 but for slapping a worthless feature set onto the game to try and recoup costs of the WoD failure (just imagine CQ trying to handle multiple avatars and combat... when it's already redlining top end machines)

GIGABYTE GV-R465D2-1GI Radeon HD 4650 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 8X HDCP Ready Video Card
Take the newegg link. It's 75usd, but you most likely don't have a PCIE 16x slot. Look at the PSU as well, maybe you'll have to step down to meet the PSU requirements.

Well, iirc 5200 is an AGP card, so you'll need an agp card to replace it, and those are, erm, rare at these times. I think the newest AGP card ever released is ATI's 4670 AGP. Otherwise, just pop to any e-store on computer stuff or go to you nearest one and ask for an AGP card that isn't 6 years old. (nvidia's 6xxx series and up, ati's x1xxx series and up)

Oh well... bad news for everybody without a DX9.0c/SM3 capable machine. Sounds like no choice but to upgrade. _

Yes there is a way. Use a friends computer to change the skills for you. Seriously, that card is very old and you are playing a modern game, its time for a (cheap) upgrade.

Check for an nVidia AGP card at your local reseller. Even a budget one should outperform your FX5200.

Disabling CQ wont do with the SM 3 they are also using it for the new shaders on the changed turrets on all the ships. ______________________ I am just a crazy cow |

unfortunately it would be better for you to just get a new PC, my laptop was $500 2 years ago, and it was outdated when i got it, i can still run eve fine ( except CQ dammit) this can probably run eve with CQ turned off
however i cannot tell by the gfx card, If anyone can tell you otherwise.

If you only have $40-50 a month extra, you shouldn't be playing pay-to-play online games in the first-place. You'll save on electricity, internet bills, and water from flushing that mountain dew down the toilet.
Who says WoD is going to be a failure? I'm not a fan of vampire games myself, but it's still being developed and hasn't even hit alpha/beta yet. My gaming rig was a budget build (<$400) four years ago, with a three year old graphics card, and I can run both Eve In-Space and Captain's Quarters fine without temperature spikes or a drastic change in FPS.

He has an AGP video card, It's doubtful that he has a pci express slot. He could likely find a nv 6200 card (one that has full sm3 support) for 10 bucks or so on fleabay..
