And we don't approve or appreciate deliberate greed at our own expense.
I hope you learn your lesson from this one before it is too late. I used to take great pride in your work, used to recommend friends join me in this game. Even I can't defend you today.
Soundwave, you said you were afraid of us burning you at the stake for your comments. Saying, it was hard to communicate your enthusiasm with the playerbase. Well, here is why.
You are trying to do something the playerbase doesn't want you to do. You and your company are fighting your own fanbase and forcing something upon them that they do not want, and demanding that they deal with the change because it is something YOU want. You are also doing this in an incredibly extreme fashion as if to pour salt into the defeated wounds of your customers -- your very lifeline. Do you understand the problem with this?
Trust builds empires, greed breaks them.
I hope you take the time to digest these words not as an attack, but as genuine concern for the direction you are headed in. If the path keeps going the way your company is steering it, I won't be there for it.
Players have a conscience, friend. We do not reflect kindly on greed, even when it doesn't affect us directly.

Two possibilities:
1.) It's fake.
2.) It's an internal joke.

It has been HOURS now since the release, if it were fake, I think they'd have said something.

Haven't they spoke about something like that during the Alliance Tournament? That people with EVE as an hobby would gladly pay extras for their hobby?

It's not fake almost for sure
here is a quote from Seleene CSM: "'Fearless' is the CCP internal newsletter. It's distributed both in paper and PDF format to the entire company. It started a couple years ago and comes out every few months. The tone of this one certainly fits the style I was used to seeing.
Edit - FYI, the paper versions are lying about all over the front office and cafateria area. Any number of random visitors could grab one and have a look. They have tours and other random folks in there all the time."

It's...odd. Yesterday, I loved this game, hated the trolls, and was honestly looking forward to Incarna.
But that was before I had my hopes and dreams punched in the face, knocked to the floor, and stomped on with golden-nailed boots.
I then became what I before loathed...my whole time remaining in this game, as I am sure many of you think as well, will now be devoted to ensuring that CCP severely regrets the day it decided to pour this load of **** on its devoted customers.
And to be honest, I'm looking forward to it with more enjoyment than I actually got out of the game.

This strikes incredibly close to home.
I literally feel as though I'm being targeted by that comment on taking money from me personally.

What hurts the most is the deliberate betrayal of trust. Saying that they would keep it strictly to vanity items and then saying they would take it beyond that behind closed doors.
I've worked for corporations before, I've seen internal newsletters like Fearless while working retail.
Some time ago I was working for Spencer Gifts. I remember their newsletter called "The Buzz" was intended purely to hype employees up and get them into the selling mood, but it also completely blinded them to the negative and occasionally outright dishonest practices we were performing on the customer.
A good businessman calls this "pushing", and the intention is to force a product upon a customer that does not really want to buy it.
CCP are forcing changes upon our game that we (the vast, vast majority) do not want, and since we are paying customers I see very little difference between the two practices.
It was dishonest when I did it in retail, and it's dishonest when CCP does it here.

You're far too optimistic, much more likely they knew exactly what was going to happen, and they kicked the ants nest just to watch us swarm about. Based on what they're watching here they'll decide how hard they can kick the ants nest next time.
They don't know they've screwed up, they don't even think they've screwed up. They're just watching the fallout and calculating in their heads how many dollar signs they're going to be able to squeeze out of it with "EVE 2" when all their current subscribers are gone and the new generation of sheep comes in to replace us.

As I said in another thread, I don't have a problem with a corporation trying to make a profit. What I have a huge problem with though is a corporation trying to milk their customers for every last cent.
To make an analogy: I don't have a problem with a stadium selling food at normal or slightly marked up prices I have a huge problem when that stadium starts selling food at an outrageous price, banning outside food, and also charging to use the restrooms and see the jumbotron. - - - Dian'h Might - C&Ps resident "internet kleptomaniac" |
