Hey guys, I'm just asking this for the sake of asking.
Why do you build? What do you get out of industry? Millions of ISK? Satisfaction? Providing things for corp mates and friends? Just curious really. I build for some supplementary cash and because I'm a welder in RL. Building is in my blood. |

I enjoy being a piece of the puzzle. I like knowing that maybe the ammo or mods I made today were on the ship that took out a capital the next day. I don't think I'd say that I do it for the profits, mine are fair, but I suppose they could be larger if I was more serious.
It's something to do I suppose. I never enjoyed trading and not all too fond of mission running. |

Like an old testament writer I am all about the profits.
I build because it is a 50% return on my money and that I can use to do other things with.

In most games, crafting, is a type of "achievement" in Bartle's taxonomy of game players. Richard A. Bartle wrote:Another common tactic is the counter-example that isnGÇÖt: GÇ£I like building/crafting/fishing, but that isnGÇÖt one of the types!GÇ¥. Well yes, it isnGÇÖt GÇô but have you asked why you like building/crafting/fishing? Because you want to get your fishing skill up? YouGÇÖre an achiever. Because you want to give fish to your friends? YouGÇÖre probably a socialiser. Because you want to see what kinds of fish you can catch? YouGÇÖll be an explorer, then. Because you hope to lure someone else into joining you so you can suddenly attack them while theyGÇÖre armed only with a fishing rod? Well, that would make you a killer. ItGÇÖs wholly possible, too, that you simply like the fishing mini-game, in which case youGÇÖd fall into the meta-player category: youGÇÖre not playing the MMO because itGÇÖs fun itself, youGÇÖre playing it so you can play the fishing mini-game for fun. - I do it to see what I can make (this usually loses the most isk).
- I make stuff so I have ships, ammo and modules to use, and so do my corpies.
Someday, I'm going to figure out how to make money making stuff for sale. Other folks are doing it, so clearly I'm a scrub. |

Purely because it's a strategic puzzle with players competing obliquely against each other. I get a great amount of enjoyment in RL and in EVE from creating and building. EVE just provides a different kind of challenge than RL manufacturing. Playing EVE at times feels like putting a 10000 piece puzzle together, enjoying the accomplishment of succedding in completing it, then having some random stranger walk by and flip your table over. |

thats exactly the reason I will get into production / building. this stream of income. the constant positive flash of the wallet... the leverage effect it creates. plus I see it as an enormous challenge for me to get the grasp on it until i am able to manage it to the level that i am cost effective and making good money off of it.
i am challenged by excel sheets and trying to manage it all, understand it all and bring it life

the satisfaction of knowing that I am making a contribution to my corp...
To see a corpmate die in a fiery explosion , or to watch them pilot a ship to create a fiery explosion for a visitor to our home... and to know that I created the ship or the ammo or the mods
to see the shinny bubble around the POS and know I am nmaking the fuel that keeps the bubble up
and on the rare occasion to make a few ISK.... (but it is very rare ;-) am I doing it wrong)
I like flying around and wondering did I build the ship I see out there, did I supply the ammo for the fight I witnessed?
I like to solve the puzzle, to overcome the logistics to get everything I need into our home and back out again.
I build because it is fun.... |

Why do people build stuff in RL? The satisfaction of actually building something from the ground up is appealing to many. The more complicated the more interesting. The isk can be nice aswell. |

It's all about the isk and self sufficiency. I went into building when capitals were introduced to the game and prices were insane. Corp needed them so I knuckled down and started mining/buying/building. Nowadays I fund our replacement program, infrastructure expansions and fleet doctrines through it. Nuff said really. |

I build stuff I need. I rarely build stuff to sell, since you make more off the materials needed than you do your final product.

Awesome topic.
On one account im an elitist pvp *******
On the other im a moon mining monkey - my new venture. I already own and operate six moons, all proving + profits in the 40% or above ranges.
I must say, the moon mining is much harder compared to the pvp. For the mining I have to move the moon stuff out of low sec, to a staging system. From there I have to load up the freighter and sell off to good market.
Jugling six poses, to see what combination is the most profitable is a huge task. Even more so, considering the moon market is so volatile. |
