O7 OP
The overeaction to the MT store and the price of the vanity items is quite simply childish. Some of these people are acting like CCP is coming over to there house, puttting a gun to there head and demanding they purchase items like the monocle from the MT store. And given what has been said by CCP, items like the monocle are meant to be prestigious, ie rare. And how do you do that?? Either making it a very rare npc drop or BINOG make it very expensive. And many players seem to ignore the fact plex can still be bought with isk so no real life cash needs to be spent on the monocle. And lastly since Cash=Plex=Isk, EVERY SINGLE ITEM THAT CAN BE PURCHASED in the game from a lowly frigate to a massive titan has an INDIRECT REAL LIFE CASH VALUE.

Originally by: Indorian Edited by: Indorian on 24/06/2011 23:48:15 Dear CCP,
Everything goes through hard-times, I for one recently graduated from College with a sociology degree and a background in Community Development. No job and no prospects in sight. I know what "hard-times" feels like. I have also been playing Eve Online for a little over a year now and have loved every single second of it.
Watching the forums over the past few months has filled me with sadness. How could a so-called fan base turn on the people responsible for so many collective years of fun and enjoyment. I personally am ashamed to be lumped into that part of the fan base. That being said, I would like to stand up and say very clearly I trust CCP and am highly excited about Incarna and the future.
Lets backtrack to the Incursion Expansion: Instead of only releasing two patches a year a staged release was adopted. It was made clear from start to finish up the stage release the MAIN feature of Incursion was the actual PvE element of Incursions, which was not introduced until the SECOND stage. With enough research I was able to realize the main feature of the Incarna expansion was NOT CQ, but in fact was the revamping of the Contraband system, which will be SO exciting!
The Issue: You've left that jump in logic as just that, a jump. At no time have you came out and said the important part of Incarna was the changes to contraband. The publicity has been on CQ, this is wrong, yes CQ is a step into a bold new world, yes I personally think its freaking awesome, however you need to make it clear contraband is the important thing. Personally I LIKE the fact Monocles are the same price as the average Dreadnaught, I think having the price that high truly shows it as a VANITY item, again, this is a case of too much stock being put into the store, and hence putting a negative light on CCP.
Conclusion:
CCP, I firmly believe in you, I am one of many who are waiting, and willing to wait, for the rest of the expansion.
Thank you for your time, -Indorian of Devils Warrior Alliance
ps. No matter what anyone says, Eve Online will ALWAYS be better then WoW :)

I'm with the OP on this one.
CCP, in spite of all the haters and unsubbers I'm going to keep both of my accounts subbed until Pay-To-Win items actually make it into the game. I'm going to support you in your decisions, no matter what they be.
My fear of you implementing a pay-to-win item mall is outweighed by the love for the game. I'll help with development costs by paying my subs until you cross the pay-to-win barrier, and then I'll leave and show my disapproval then. We've all seen you guys say you're going to do something and then it never happens, so I'll sure as hell not unsub before the items make it into the game.

no sir, wife + 3 kids here and I'll not be buying a damn thing on NeX, but I think Incarna is ****ing awesome and I'm sick of all the *****ing out there.
EDIT: Why don't you grow up a bit. Throwing a fit over an in-game service that you don't have to use is practically begging us to view YOU as a child. I'm 28, how old are you?

Dude if you want to call your sister your wife thats fine, but adding 3 inbreds to the gene pool is nothing to be proud of, mkay ?
Also will you please tell me where the awesome is in Incarna, because everything in it has been done by other games, and done to a far higher standard i might add.
Oh, and another thing, you are aware that CQ is NOT optional very soon right, you WILL use it, that has already been confirmed by CCP.
Just to end, if you think people are mad over some crappy vanity items you realy are a tool, go do some reading, assuming you can of course, then get back to me.

Actually no. Right now PLEX = Game time, so money used to purchase PLEX is, one way or another, ultimately going to the same purpose of subscription fees. PLEX has no real-money value, its value is the same value as everything else in EVE: TIME. How much isk that TIME is worth is entirely dependent on market forces.
However, as soon as you introduce a system whereby PLEX may be removed from the system for a currency which represents real dollars for microtransactions, you have introduced real money directly to the game. The same amount of dollars buys you the same amount of PLEX which in turn buys you the same amount of AUR. The exchange rate between ISK and AUR may vary, but the exchange rate between the AUR and the dollar is invariable.
The difference is actually not subtle at all. AUR establishes, in a very real sense, an exchange rate between ISK and the Dollar, rather than between ISK and game-time. This means that real money now directly impacts the game economy, where before its impact was passive and subject to EVE's market forces.
If you don't think real money directly impacts the game economy, watch the price of PLEX over the next year. PLEX are no longer game time, they may be converted to game time, but have other uses. This means their price will go up. An increase in the price of PLEX in ISK means an increase in the price of GAME TIME in ISK.
I'm not opposed to that inherently... actually I think it's kinda nice having an exchange rate between ISK and the dollar, but it's just inaccurate to imply that they're not changing anything big here.

We live in interesting times; in fact CCP is the kind of company that if things get repetitive we instinctively crank it up a notch. That, we certainly have done this week. First of we have Incarna, an amazing technological and artistic achievement. A vision from years ago realized to a point that no one could have imaged but a few months ago. It rolls out without a hitch, is in some cases faster than what we had before, this is the pinnacle of professional achievement. For all the noise in the channel we should all stand proud, years from now this is what people will remember.
But we have done more, not only have we redefined the production quality one can apply to virtual worlds with the beautiful Incarna but we have also defined what it really means to make virtual reality more meaningful than real life when it comes to launching our new virtual goods currency, Aurum.
Naturally, we have caught the attention of the world. Only a few weeks ago we revealed more information about DUST 514 and now we have done it again by committing to our core purpose as a company by redefining assumptions. After 40 hours we have already sold 52 monocles, generating more revenue than any of the other items in the store.
This we have done after months of research by a group of highly competent professionals, soliciting input and perspective from thought leaders and experts in and around our industry. We have communicated our intention here internally in very wide circles through the Virtual Economy Summit presentation at the GSM, our Fearless newsletter, sprint reviews, email lists and multiple other channels. This should not come as a surprise to anyone.
Currently we are seeing _very predictable feedback_ on what we are doing. Having the perspective of having done this for a decade, I can tell you that this is one of the moments where we look at what our players do and less of what they say. Innovation takes time to set in and the predictable reaction is always to resist change.
We went out with a decisive strategy on pricing and we will stay the course and not flip flop around or knee jerk react to the predictable. That is not saying nothing will change, on the contrary, in fact we know that success in this space is through learning and adapting to _what is actually happening_ and new knowledge gained in addition to what we knew before and expected.
All that said, I couldnGÇÖt be prouder of what we have accomplished as a company, changing the world is hard and we are doing it as so many times before! Stay the course, we have done this many times before.
(end)
Pretty good e-mail IMHO sums things up nicely and probably what I would think in this situation.

Thanks to the OP for trying to speak for those of us (who I think are in the majority) who aren't part of the lynchmob.
Most of the playerbase aren't up in arms. We understand that Incarna is a huge undertaking and that CQ is just the first step, the foundation upon which the rest will be built. We're reasonable and willing to give CCP the time to work out the bugs.
Good luck trying to be heard above the mob. Try and ignore the inevitable trolls.

To you guys who keep helping keep this thread going, Thank you. The Majority is still playing our beloved game. IMO the Jita protests were no more then an attempt by a minority to deliberately cause lag. Correct me if i'm wrong, but deliberately causing lag is a ban worthy offense.
Case in Point: CCP, the players are with you, the majority are not under some form of hysteria, and top it all off. We understand clearly that we can always go play something else and that we're here because we WANT to play. Now, hurry up and get the PR nightmare the trolls caused under control and give a place to gamble away my iskes in station!
Hell yeh CCP, keep it up!
