So my PC dies a day before the patch which is a shame but I get a new one in 4 days and I'm looking forward to logging back in. So I thought I'd read the forums tonight post patch to see how things are going but I can't keep with the endless threads of rage and threats to unsub.
Can someone in 100 words or less describe what on earth everyone is ****ed about, with careful attention to how in just 3 days this update has immediately impacted your gaming experience so far as to warrant unsubscribing?
And go...

Hint: it's got very little to do with the actual update and more to do with the leaked newsletter that shows where CCP intends to take the game based on the update. - sig |

Edited by: Blane Xero on 24/06/2011 16:37:15 CCP Reveals great desire to heavily push Microtransactions. Several statements which amount to "Aurum/Noble Exchange is never going away". WiS/Incarna not being optional in the long run. Supporters of Microtransactions dismayed when real prices of Noble Exchange items revealed, prime offender monocle which costs ~4 plex worth of aurum. CCP silent for almost 48 hours. CCP Pann thrown to the flames, promises answers. Dissapears, Manifest takes place, goes silent after 10~ posts (30~ Pages?) _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

mainly this^
CCP is adopting (covertly) a pay as you play position. Acknowledging that the playerbase will go crazy over it, but doing it anyway.
There is a .pdf link to the newsletter somewhere in all these threads if you wish to read it for yourself. ----- CCP exhibits an alcoholic personality...please read |

I'll bite, even though this is troll bait.
People first were butthurt at extreme prices on vanity items.
Then an internal document got leaked that had a lot of speculation on making eve P2W, other MT models they want to adapt and some dev sh*tting on the forum whiners.
Then Helicity got 3 accounts banned for 90 days for breaking the EULA by threatening a dev.
More trolls, then anti-trolls, then bittervets, then troll, some ponies and finally a split in the forum community. As far as eve goes: CQ, badass turrets and a lot of backend (not visible) work. -------------------------------------------------
Don't debate with morons. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience. |

Yeah turrets look sweet, first thing i'm going to buy a maller and fly it off into enemy territory until it explodes.
Regarding the leak? I'm usually the first to jump in to CCPs defense given the antics that go on in these forums but I gotta say ths DOES look bad for them. Someone on the inside is watching over us though. Chances are this leak will force CCP to re- evaluate their strategy somewhat, at least for now.

Edited by: Tugrath Akers on 24/06/2011 17:03:20 A leaked document showed an opinion face-off debating microtransactions. The guy that drew the 'against' straw is hailed as a savior. The 'for' guy, not so much. People assume the 'for' opinion is CCP's official stance, and the set in stone future of Eve. Hilarity ensues.
Oh yeah, at first everyone complained their barbie clothes cost too much.

This internal CCP document was leaked. Many people are upset that CCP would even consider selling items in the Nub Store that give you an in game advantage or that are currently made by the players. Reasons for this are taking production out of the hands of industrialists, circumventing the EVE economy, an advantage to people who have more RL money to throw at the game, and promises made that CCP would not be putting these kinds of items in the store. It coming out so soon after Incarna certainly didn't help matters any the expansion has little to do with it. Also some people don't like being called a golden goose.

Many people were unhappy with Incana, especially the price of the micro-transaction shop, many other things too because it doesnt ofer much and works poorly.
Then someone leaked an internal memo which many people took as confirmation of there fears about micro transaction - this made the majority of people extremely upset.

Actually ccp is going to remove the optional part of CQ about the same time they "adjust" monocle prices. Or at least they've said they plan to.

The leaked newsletter where CCP admits that they are preparing to add a Pay to Win payment model where they selling power boosting items for cash on top of their existing Pay to Play subscription model. With such lovely comments as saying that selling power boosting items is great because they don't have to invest any work beyond changing a few stat values.
Basically CCP said "hey, instead of charging players once to play EVE, we should charge players twice to play EVE".

1) EVE became officially known in the media (and among the playerbase) as a $70 pixel monocle game
2) CQ was rushed out in an unfinished non-optimized state that kills the game for many players. ~10 FPS on lowest settings on machines that run other graphically rich games at 30-40 FPS. Overheating GPU/CPU problems for high-end card owners. The majority is forced to look at a static image of the doors (station environment not loaded) because of the performance or overheating issues;
3) CCP's internal newsletter leaked showing that they don't have any respect for their customers whatsoever and that upper management don't care or understand what's EVE all about. They've lost contact with the game completely.
4) All that is combined with $99 license fiasco for 3rd party developers just a couple of days earlier (that was kinda put on hold, but it warmed up the community a bit). [Petition] Make entry into CQ and Incarna optional. |
