Edited by: Marius Deterium on 25/06/2011 04:19:52 I propose that CCPÆs pricing structure for Aurum is flawed. They are alienating their community and leaving valuable revenue on the table. Basically, CCP canÆt do maths.
Based on the information leaked over the past few days we have learned that CCPÆs pricing strategy for Aurum works something like this: Sell a small number of units at a very high price point. Churn up the content to produce a steady income.
In HilmarÆs email we learned he was happy about 42 monocles over 40 hours. I am going to give CCP the maximum benefit of the doubt in my income estimates. So, 42 monocles over 40 hours nets 1.05 monocles per hour. 25.2 monocles per day. 8971.2 monocles per year. Each monocle costs $68.40. So, $613,630.08 annually.
Remember in HilmarÆs email he said the monocles were doing better than the other items. LetÆs give them the maximum benefit of the doubt and say that can do this with all 8 items in the NeX. So $4,909,040.64.
ThatÆs right, nearly 5 million dollars. Now I think I understand why Hilmar is confident. Even though I think this number is hugely unrealistic, if they can build this market they could make millions. Which is why I think you see the attitude you do in ZuluÆs post and HilmarÆs email.
But, I propose their strategy is flawed. They are leaving a million dollars on the sales floor. (not to mention really ****ing everyone off).
So, hereÆs what they should have done.
They should have put the price points in a place where every one of the 300k subs would want to buy 1 plex per year to outfit their character with cool NeX goods. I think this number is very conservative, and I WOULD have bought 1 plex per year per account. Easily.
So, letÆs run the numbers, 300k times $19.95 per plex isàà wait for itàà
$5,985,000. Yeah you might notice that this number is a million dollars higher than what they can best expect from the current sales trend. In addition, I think everyone would have been a hell of a lot less ****ed off about this particular issue.
CCP. YOU. CANÆT. DO. MATHS.
(and you really ****ed everyone off something fierce) --- Good...bad, I'm the guy with the gun. |

They should have never have brought in PLEX. If they didn't they wouldn't need a sink for it. ____ Even these can't save CCP

I think that's a different argument. What I'm saying here is the whole aurum pricing strategy is flawed. --- Good...bad, I'm the guy with the gun. |

I'm sure there are a great deal of players that wouldn't be playing this game if they couldn't do it with isk. I know I'm one of them.
