I hear a lot of eve players talking about it as a non spaceship eve like game?
Is it? How does it work? VERY little information to be found about it...

They have a 15 day free trial, so give it a go. I'm still downloading it atm so I can't give you any more info than that.

It's pretty much on a par with eve. But instead of spaceships and lots of planets. Think mechs and one planet. I wanted to have a look because it sounded interesting. I've only played through the tutorials so far to get used to the controls, which look a bit complex from a first run through so not sure I would play it a lot as it stands. They do say it's a work in progress. But here's a first "look" list
a. has it's hi-sec low-sec b. mining c. PVP (on a particualy island I believe) d. 3 factions e. weapons/ammo are handled in a similar fasion as far as viewing loading to the mech f. for stations read terminal stations
Thats it so far and this is a first look remember.

I've just finished two hours as a newbie there, and can say that it's confusing as hell, but doesn't seem to suck at this point. Of course, I'm not even through all the tutorial missions yet. :)
It's definitely pretty Eve-like.

You won't be lonely. There's literally hundreds of other Eve Online players over there at the moment.

In my (admittedly limited) experience there - it doesn't seem to be any worse a chore than Eve... and now there seems to be a bit of a mass exodus of Eve players to there, I'm sure the current Perpetuum community won't know what hit it.

Played it for a couple hours, heres my current take on it:
Potential: Massive Feel: Very old eve (think 2005 and earlier), for better and worse. UI: HOLY **** THATS A LOTTA WINDOWS Playerbase: Very helpful and nice people. Devs/GM's: Friendly and helpful, convoed me minutes after I joined and asked if I needed any help etc. Client performance: I was getting kinda low fps for some reason, but since the two other that joined with me also has that maybe it's capped at 30? It is definitively not affecting gameplay though.
Only thing I havn't gotten to try yet is pvp, will be doing that as soon as i get more time..

The game has an incrdible potential, but what's really missing r players the economy , last time i checked was very bad
the pvp, well is damn fun, once u find someone to pvp with, world is large and pop is low... Take eve, now add WASD and line of fire(based on the ewapon)/covers and u get perpetuum pvp, no "orbit @" "keep distance" etc
i continued checkin the forums, DEVs r very "active" and actually deleted almost an whole corp (the strongest one at that moment) 'cause they found they were"cheating", they removed also the assets acquired in that way. No idea how's the pop at the moment but 1/2 was of ex-eve players.
conclusion: give it a try , free trial + 1 month costs only 9euros (used to cost around 6 back in 2010), but don't expect to find a game at the same stage of eve is years behind

Personally
Pros: -Amazing devs, lots of in-game help getting started and feedback in-game and on forums -Lots of enthusiasm from the players -Just as open eneded as eve, for a cheaper sub fee
Cons: -Gameplay just doesn't feel there yet, perhaps it will get there soon idk -The UI feels just as awful as the EVE UI (if not worse) did prior to any of the upgrades -The server isn't taking well to the mass influx of EVE refugees and it's unstable at times
I plan to throw tenbux at them just because I have a feeling it CAN be good and the devs certainly deserve it, but I won't be playing it much right away.

played for 5 mins and quit. kinda like my first experience with EVE. Cept this game manages to be even more needlessly complex.
also: combat mechanics are exactly the same as eve.
ps also: no megatron.

It'll be interesting to be on the ground floor of the next true sandbox MMO.
It's rough around the edges but so was Eve. Maybe these guys can refrain from selling their product out to the lowest common denominator.
The players built Eve. The players can build Perpetuum.

totally wrong tbh maybe u might not notice the differencies while doin PvE, but like i said, some mechanics r the same as eve, but the terrain+WASD movement makes it more proactive. Some other differences: 1- when a bot explodes in pvp, all surrounding bots take damage form the explosion 2- the higher the number of bot is in your squad, the more intereference the whole gang will suffer (slower locking time etc)

It¦s overwhelming for the beginner with a steep learning curve, millions of skills you initially have no idea what they¦re for, a bad UI with dozens of windows that plaster your screen so you don¦t see that much of the graphics, a confusing amount of identical items with different "tech levels".
What differs from EVE are very friendly and responding GMs and DEVs, no bots, no RMT and a virgin player-driven economy which screams for manipulation.

I saw someone say it has a version of lowsec which I look forward to. Does it contain some variant of nullsec?

Yeah half of the islands IE the regions in Perpetuum are no holds barred pvp areas pretty much like nullsec. There isn't really a lowsec area at all, since there's no sec status penalties or gate guns there afaik.

Q: "what have we learned?" A: "that grouping is fun?"
makes me excited to get into pvp once I get out of the noob areas. Still learning the game, interface, etc...but is so Eve-like in a lot of ways that most stuff translates directly...we can even 'web' mechs to keep them from escaping! Roommate and I got web + neuted by NPC's today, they switch targets and such sort of like Sleepers, so can't wait to see proper fleet/squad whatever engagements with neuts, ecm, eccm, logi repping, sensor masking (sort of like stealth), terrain tactics (terrain makes a difference!, outpost defense, etc).
It's somewhat like Eve around 2004/2005. Rough for sure, and the endgame content hasn't been fleshed out fully, but then again, Eve's endgame took a while to go from idea/vision to outposts, sov, pos, moons, plexes, etc (ie a reason to hold territory and the mechanics to make it possible).
Plus it is great fun being a noob again, learning new bits. Mining already sucks (I don't mine in Eve either), but some are pretty happy with it.
Only real way to determine if you like it is to try it and stick with it for a few days at least. GM's, devs, original players, and of course the flood of all the Eve refugees = you'll get lots of help.
Plus we all wondering how long before Lady Spank gets a forum ban there as well, and how long before Helicity starts ganking mining mechs lol. Stuff goes here |

Its really interesting and very different from what i've played in the past, i've only just joined the trial but i love the whole idea and aspect of it, it players very simular to eve, but it really is quite different, the graphics are reasonably good, but there is only like 10 people working on the game in total anyway, so they've come a long way and a long ways to go to really get the best out of the game.
Its definitely worth a look and giving it a try just to see if you like it or not, but there are bugs in it right now just to warn you, the worst one i've seen so far is trying to kill a NPC but they all of a sudden move into the wall, you cant see or hit it lol, and missiles are just a tad bit of hit or miss and when they miss, they REALLY miss lol. I was playing back in the closed beta and it was extremely laggy with my old computer. I loved the skill point progressing concept that they have. I amsure that the Devs have ironed out many of the UI problems they had to begin with, but I seriously doubt it is any less bloated then it was before. If you thought you had it bad in EVE just wait
I got my new comp last fall and I tried it out and it was a little better but the lag was still present, but that is to be expected with so little funds and such a small Dev team. They have had 8 more months to work on things and since there is a new flux of EVE players and they have the anti blobbing mechanics I believe that I will resub and check things out. That being said I do find it funny that so many EVE players bashed this game for so long and so hard and now many are 'flying' on over to try some land based pvp.
