The reason CCP thought it was such a funny joke in 2008 is because they knew the player base found these ideas so revolting. Here we are, a short (in EVE) 3 years later. I'd imagine many of the original players are still here, joined now by a bunch of like-minded individuals. The activity on the forums seems to confirm this - the current players don't want the implied changes.
I'm not terribly familiar with SWG, but from what I gather, the death knell for that MMO came when they tried to do something similar. That is, radically change gameplay mechanics to appeal to a wider audience.
Sadly, I think in an attempt to grab new players, CCP will alienate us - the people who have been paying them all the way back to a time when they considered this sort of thing a joke.
Hilmar won't be watching what we're saying, only what we're doing? I'm seriously considering sending him a message by cancelling my accounts, and I would recommend that others consider this as well.
