Apparantly CCP ain't in a very listening mood. And those 40+ sold monocles seem to have given them a boost in confidence to wither it out.
Perhaps the problem must be looked at from a different side. Now what happens if someone with vanity items walks in a bad neighbourhood in RL? Well, big chance they'll get mugged because they are ****ing people off. It's only normal not to show your wealth in certain areas.
So basicly why don't we bring that concept to Eve. Vanity-wearers **** people off because they are supporting CCP. So make wearing/selling vanity items a rather dangerous activity. Track them down. Drop them from your corporations. Give them terrible standing. Don't make a fleet with them. Put a reasonably bounty on them over and over again. (Just not too much that it becomes profitable to wear a monocle ofc :) ). Ignore their contracts. Eve has the concept of illegal goods for the NPC's. Make Vanity items the illegal goods for the community. Make sure that no one in his right mind buys something from that shop.
Now ofc you need to give the people an 'out' too. They bought these things before they were 'illegal' or perhaps just in plain ignorance. So if the publicly say they'll leave it forever in storage they can be considered to be cured from their flashy addiction ;)
Considering this is a reaction on player behavior and not a random thing, I would think that this is legal within Eve's rules. There is also a clearly defined 'profit' target : the removal of the store (or atleast it's not expanding into battle stuff) . I'm sure the big corps can make it happen. Since I suppose the rich people that bought the stuff live in Null-sec.
This opens up a second front against CCP. No point in defending a store where no one buys something.

Now this is protesting things using in-game mechanics and is well thought out. I am glad to see that not everyone who is against what is going on has fallen into the herd destroy the sandbox so no one can have fun mentality. Good job.

Wait.... do you really think Hilmar is happy with the number of NEX items that have been sold?
Have you ever worked anywhere outside of a Denny's to know how this fluff works?
Kisses.

Why would go so low by insulting his looks? It's just an avatar he created. And besides... I don't think you have any more right than him to criticize for his looks. Your avatar looks like an immigrant Mongolian sweat-shop factory worker working at another third-world country. (I don't have anything against Mongolians).

+1 Supported,
If these items costed 50cents to 1 dollar per, I wouldn't care if people played eve barbie.
But when they cost 60, and eve has made thousands of dollars already...
DO NOT FEED THE BEAST.

They should have to contract it out or some other way not be able to access it.
I.d love to see someone drop one in a container, in the middle of the Jita or amarr protest.
And then announce it in local.
Then, as soon as someone tries to take it, EVERYONE lights that person up.
See how long a lone monocle can sit in the middle of a well organized protest.
It could become like Toomb of Unknown Soldier.
Anyone willing to support the playerbase instead of supporting destructive greed, can donate their monocle to the TOMB.
Player alliances would rotate out guarding the tomb.
Ever vigilant.
Sending the message to ccp,
never again......

Edited by: Shigeru Potatomoto on 25/06/2011 17:06:56 I'll never wear a monocle if the average "EVE protester" agrees to go outside for an hour every single day.
Guess I'm stuck with it....:P

He can't look stupid, he has a monocle.
But like they say with fools and money, there's no arguing with them.

I don't know about this, could careless if anyone buys vanity items. I'm not upset about that at all, its the fact that at some point these "vanity" items will be guns, ammo, and whatever else to be used in game. Don't get why anyone cares about ppl buying shirts or whatever, it's not my isk they can spend it on whatever they want.

Monocles becomes "kick me" stickies. Funny.
P.S. Probably if monocles were less ugly people hated them less.

Who cares about the vanity items, it's more about them considering selling faction standings, ships, items, etc. A rolex has value because not everyone can have one... Monacle is the same way, it says I can afford to waste this amount of money on something that does absolutely nothing.
